Any chance that Brooks bought out his clothing line?

Ari biffed and took it out too fast, and Spence had to grind out the consequences. He is in 1:48 shape at least for a well-paced race.
He shouldn't be mentioning altitude for an 800 at 5400 though.

52 is not too fast for a 1:48 guy. He just couldn’t hang

You really just wanna hate on him...he’s a sub 4 miler a 3:39 1500 guy and a 1:48 800
He's a 3:39.94 1500 meter runner and has a 3:59.97 for indoor mile as a PB, and his 800 is 1:49.12 . His times have been run in high school before. I thought his time trial was unimpressive, I don't care if he did it at altitude (1:50.5 hand time).
He really needs to get stronger and faster. Professionals have run 1:50 before in the middle of a workout.
Comments like this are so funny. "No, he's not a sub-4 miler, he's a 3:59.9 miler!" Uh, yeah, that's what he said. Lots of 3:39/3:59 guys have signed low-end contracts in the past, lots will in the future. Most will never get significantly faster and never earn any significant sums of money from the sport. A few will. But whether high schoolers have run the time before, or whether other better pros have run the time in workouts is completely irrelevant. Jakob Ingebritsen ran 3:31 as a 17-year-old, but that doesn't mean 3:32 runners aren't allowed to be considered fast or get pro deals.
No one thinks this 3:39 guy is a 3:35 guy right now. That's the nice thing about running: the times are the times. There's no such thing as a "fast 3:39" or a "slow 3:39." It's just 3:39. Everyone is also aware that whatever deal this guy got is thanks primarily to his YouTube, not his times. But the 3:39 is the price of entry, and it's a good enough time to get him in the door.
Why is everyone is negative? The guy has run some decent times and is trying to make his dreams happen. He may or may not fail, but at least he has a chance.
I'm also finding the hate towards Spencer strange since, as many have pointed out, he has some solid PRs and that along with his YouTube following makes him an appealing prospect. I guess the kind of self promotion through videos and social media just doesn't sit well with some people.
I'm bullish on Spencer.
This week he ran a solo 1:50:X time trial at altitude, same time as Drew Hunter ran the same week.
His 800/1500/mile PRs are about the same as other Beasts such as Izaic Yorks.
He improved throughout college and was able to get into his peak college shape this Summer in a few months after being out of shape because he was sick with a bad case of Lupus.
I’m not into the persona that seems necessary to be a YouTube personality. But I will probably start watching because it is a compelling story for any runner who dreams of achieving that next higher level.
It’s essentially a reality show about a near elite runner trying to take the next step.
Win/Win

INCORRECT
All for Spencer but didn’t Yorks run 353 in college?

INCORRECT
Yorks v Spenc
800m and 1500m PRs
1:47 v 1:48
3:37 v 3:38
Neglibible difference
Trend over past few years
Up, steady v decline
If you told me they would race against each other next year, I'd put my money on Spec

Isn’t Spencer 800 149.1 and 1500 339.9
And didn’t Yorks run 353 high in college ~ 336 equivalent?
Agreed. Spencer has limited elite talent but a great work ethic, and that he's able to live his dream without anyone handing him any gifts is awesome. It should motivate and inspire high school and college runners that with work and commitment, anything is possible. It's unbelievable that so many on LRC trash a runner when he/she is doing something positive. Must be a lack of self-esteem for many on here. :)

You’re both “INCORRECT” lol. I don’t understand why people on letsrun make up fake times haha. Yorks has run 1:46, 3:36 and 3:53. Spencer has run 1:49, 3:39 and 3:59 and has plenty of room for improvement. I feel like Spencer could run ~1:47/3:37 in paced races with good competition and I’m happy for the dude getting this awesome opportunity.

Spencer ran 1:50 in High School off some really weird training, I wouldn’t say he has limited elite talent. Rather, I’d say he’s had poor coaching throughout college and his first months as a pro/post collegiate. I’m excited to see what Mackey can do with him, think the Beasts is a really good fit for him and I’m very high on Mackey as a coach
What kind of weird training?

His dad was mainly coaching him (ran at Michigan back in the day). He focused a lot on not burning him out so he did really low mileage and mainly speed work if I recall correctly. Essentially he was pretty under trained and obviously his dad isn’t a world class coach so most people would consider it “weird”
