I know he once ran 45.5 in college (for ATM).
as a freshman
He mentioned he has has a goal to run on a USA 4x4 one day; I hope he understands how difficult that is.

I think you can say TAM, AMCT, T A&M or just A&M before saying ATM, which is more like automatic transaction machine.
Actually not as tough as you think. Top 6 at nationals. Also, having the mixed 4 x 400m might open it up more.
45 low or even mid will get you too 6 at USAs if you can make it through the rounds.
he could do it wrote:

What are you typing?
You are taking D. Brazier's ability to run 45.xx 400m on a relay leg and you are attempting to state Brazier has the skills to race top six, U.S.A. T&F 400m. You do know poster, D. Brazier has never broken 47 seconds, F.A.T. 400m outdoors. Brazier does not have it in him to make it to U.S.A.'s 400m final.
D. Brazier cannot run mid-45 400m, F.A.T. No one gets a rolling start to make 4 x 400m relay.
The man ran on A&Ms 4x4 team. as an 18 year old. Typically a team of A&Ms nature could medal at a global championship from time to time in its own right. International fans don’t realize how good top college teams are.
Brazier is crazy fast. If he focused on the 400, he would make a USA final. Easy. To not believe so is a total and complete disrespect for the 800 world title he won this past year. You cannot do that without world class 400 speed. You can maybe run up on a dying pack and steal a medal, but to win in the manner that he did, that’s the package and if he was able to take the baton he would run just about anyone down, especially in lane 1 where most quarter milers are uncomfortable and unfamiliar with being directly in front or behind. This isn’t an argument that he would make a world final in the 400, just one that he would be unbeatable on the carey.
I consider world class 400m speed to be sub-44.50 F.A.T. An elite 800m runner does not need world class 400m speed. I take it you're a D. Brazier fan. If D. Brazier were a F.A.T. sub-45 man, he would have done it. Heck, if D. Brazier had F.A.T. sub-46 400m in him, he would have done it. You cannot assess who is the fastest 400m runner necessarily by watching 800m races. Training for 800m does not necessarily make one a faster 400m athlete.
The 2019 World Champs had two 400m hurdlers in the women’s 4x400 finals so it’s not mandated to finish in the top six to be selected for the team. Angelo Taylor and Allen Johnson have also run for USA teams and they ran the 400 and 110 hurdles. If you’re fast and already have made an international team you can be selected for the relay.

I would like you to show us an U.S. Olympic 4 x 400m relay team that was not selected directly from U.S.A. 400m final.

2008 Angelo Taylor in the final, Kerron Clement in the heat:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletics_at_the_2008_Summer_OlympicsIn a recent Interview brazier said that he thought he could run a 45 flat/low in a relay.
In 2019 there were only 14 men in the world at sub-44.50. That seems a bit fast.
Well, he has an official 45.92 relay split.
I'd put him at 44.8 or so open if he focused on it.
And that 45.92 was from high school.
A world class 800 runner does not need to be a world class 400 runner. They are very different events. Very few athletes specialise over both distances. Coe still is faster than Brazier over the 800 and was a 46x runner over 400. Strength matters more than 400 speed - and Brazier certainly has plenty of strength. He's fast for an 800 guy - but not for a 400 runner.

No way. In FAT terms the difference would be nearly 2 seconds - huge over that distance. He would be lucky to run sub-46 FAT. You don't seem to get that the 400 is a sprint, whereas the 800 requires significant aerobic capacity. If that were not so the best 400 guys would be running 800's - and winning. They aren't. (And don't talk about Juantorena, the exception who proves the rule. He was a 20.7 runner over 200. Brazier would be nowhere near that.)

Ok. 2012 US Olympic women's 4x4 team. Felix ran a leg in the finals despite not running the 400m at the trials.
Do you not realize he's gone 46-sec FAT indoors!? He also ran on a 3:07 relay which he split low 45s at A&M. What's with the hate? This guy is the world champion and could have been a threat in the open 400m like Juantorena.
