In his Instagram post yesterday Julian was very gracious about Cheptegei ’s world record and made a brief comment about his own form or the lack thereof hinting that he just had a bad day but that he will be back in the future. It seems he had been over trained and gone over the boil but he will be back no doubt and all the training will not go to rubbish. Realistically, he was about in the same form at least as Jimmy Gressier of France who ran 1315. I felt that Julian was gonna run around 1305 and maybe that will be for another time. he ran 1313 last year and he’s much stronger than he was last year. But strength in and of itself does not always translate directly into a fast track time especially the first time out. That is why I was quite surprised about many of the PB’s that people ran in Monaco because they had not run any track races for most of the people participating in so it was very surprising. But it seems that COVID-19 training and time trials benefited many athletes. Athletes now are super hungry to prove themselves.
