Having done both sports at a crappy-elite level (good enough for free stuff/make some $). I’m in the camp of ‘no’. Reason is that I think a big part of east African advantage stems from better economies vs. stronger hearts/lungs/low weight. When you watch the leading pack come by in a WMM (pre-cheaterfly), it looked like they were just loping along (@4:40/mi). Cycling in high mountains is not nearly as technique dependent and is basically a power@altitude/weight contest. Stumpy Colombians rule up there, and before that you had Froome who looks like a monkey from the wizard of oz. and high mountains would be the place where they are the most competitive- just getting to the base of a climb in the right position efficiently is very difficult
