B1G just cancelled football, with rest of P5 likely to follow. Will all fall sports be cancelled (or postponed) and is NCAA XC for the fall going to be totally wiped out? Seems a little extreme.

SEC won't cave in
Nonsense. The horizon league is still hanging on. Big 10 is just weak. Sad! Let the boys run.
I have the answer.
Run a real Cross Country relay, across the country.
Depth will win it.
D2 and D3 have already said there will be no championships for fall sports. The Ivy League, another D1 conference, has said there will be no competition in the fall semester.
Losing the fall sports is appealing/acceptable to some because it would mean that fall, winter, and spring sports all will have lost a season.
Of course, the problem is what to do when the spring semester starts--if the virus is still raging, which really is likely absent an effective vaccine. You know the NCAA would hate to give up its major moneymaker (the D1 roundball tournament) for a second year; but if you're going to have a basketball season, is it a shortened season? Formal practices typically start in October, and informal practices begin when the fall semester does (or earlier)--can official practices really be put off until December or January? Won't the incentive to cheat be *huge* (not that it isn't already)?
Just posted in another thread about this?
We can have youth and recreational sports across the country but not college sports? Doesn't make sense to me.

Uhm, yeah cause putting on Penn Relays or Griak is just about the same as having a T-ball game or a turkey trot at the local park.
Moran.

one of the unintentionally funniest things I have ever seen.
"yeah...i get we are in the middle of a pandemic on its way to killing half a million Americans....but canceling my non-profit intramural fringe sport? ? ? ? ...seems a little extreme!"
There will be no NCAA XC Championships this year. Even if the remaining 9 FBS conferences continue, expect all FCS (mid-major) programs to not participate in Fall sports.
There are 350 women's XC programs at the division 1 level. Between the Big 12, Big Ten, SEC, Pac-12, ACC, American, Conf-USA, Sun Belt, Mountain West you have 113 programs. Throw in Navy, Army, BYU, Gonzaga and one random conference and you have about 127 programs.
That's 36% participation, far below the 50% threshold the NCAA requires to host a championships.
Conferences MAY still compete and host championships.
A real long shot is that these conference may develop their own "national championship". But don't hold your breath on this one.

Scratch out the Mountain West now
AAU Junior Olympics were held with thousands attending from all over the country. My son played in a baseball tournament last week with 200 teams from 7 states participating.

Youth and rec are not school sports. Different dynamic.

Yeah, AAU held in Florida which is now the hot bed for the virus. Great move.

To be fair you put quotes around a statement he didn't make.
7000 deaths Florida. 32,000 New York. Seems that Florida knows what they are doing. Besides, this thing is highly contageous and everyone will get it within a year. So there is no point in killing thousands more by shutting the economy down. How long before some college athletes commit suicide?

just.....wow......some people just don't get it, do they?
i bet you were able to figure it out though, right?
The part he said is in the quote box.
The part in quotes is me mocking what they said by satirically impersonating them as a form of parody to poke fun at and further illustrate the ridiculousness of what they said through slight exaggeration and added emphasis.
This is in quotes both to help distinguish it as separate from my own voice and viewpoint that I was writing in before that and also to indicate speech.....in this case, the speech of a fictionalized character representing a parodied version of the original poster.
Does that help?
This is something most elementary kids understand intuitively.
I seriously wonder about people like you, and how you are able to function in everyday life, misreading everything, not understanding the basics of human communication and social interaction.
It must be so confusing.

They're second to Cali in cases. That's a stupid opinion, to say we're all going to get it so let's do nothing.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/florida-reports-record-number-covid-19-hospitalizations-n1236286You don't put quotes around the whole thing, you quote only the part he stated.
I wonder about idiots like you who don't know how to construct a proper sentence. Plus your mouth suggests less than elementary education.

Florida’s up to 8200 today! Catching up fast it seems. Such winning.
You quoted a fictional character who resides entirely within your own head, and you are concerned about another poster being confused? You're probably right in that most elementary kids intuitively understand imaginary friends. By all means, carry on. I look forward to an even more convoluted response.
