I also don't thing it's psychotic to run an all out 1500, 5k, and 10k in an entire season..these distances really don't take a ton out of you.
Lol I stopped reading after this
For what it's worth I never said I was part of the BTC
To go for a pr at 3k or 10k would have been more valuable for the athletes in shape. Even better, to go race in Monaco against top competition and get that feeling of what it's like. Too many of Jerry's athletes buy his theory that you can only peak for championships and ruin your season by racing otherwise. Actually, you learn how to race at the top levels. I hope that Moh at least is running in Monaco. Lopez, Shelby, Karissa and maybe some others should be there as well.
I think what they did the last few weeks is smart. We are in a pandemic so I understand why many would not want to travel to Europe. Shelby mentioned it in her podcast. The team was able to get some good efforts in and keep themselves sharp. Shutting down the season then starting base training back up in the fall is smart. Prepare for next year

why no 3k or mile or 10K?
Who in their right mind would run an all out effort at every distance in a season? When is the last time something like that happened from 1500-10k? He ran a 1247 and 334 for you all and somehow that wasn't enough?
Every serious runner I now can race a 15, 5k, and 10k in the same season. BTC athletes are soft. They won't do anything unless it fits in with Jerry's Master Plan™.
It's a bit frustrating to watch. Yes, they deserve SOME credit for broadcasting a few meets. But you would think when you're in the shape of your life you would want to take advantage of it, not waste it on silly games. They have zero races coming up so they would have plenty of time to recover from a 10K.
So do you run, like, marathons? wrote:

Lol you're so right...hopefully the BTC can find a way to achieve success in the program despite Jerry's best efforts.
I don't think a single athlete who ran a PR would say they wasted a season, especially when being in your best shape this year doesn't matter.
It's pretty obvious that they needed to complete their minimal races to fulfill their contract, and they got on their better efforts when they could.
Damn you got triggered quick.

Sounds like you think you are a better coach...?
COVID hits. Rules and regulations are placed. We adjust. Life becomes “normal” to the lucky ones who haven’t lost anyone. Pandemic life starts to take a toll when things that were “normal” (Diamond League, Olympics, etc) are no longer as prominent compared to years prior. As a result, frustration is expressed on LR. Instead of complaining about BTC (who did a great job at keeping most of us engaged in the sport), how about switching up your life a tad? Maybe show some compassion and empathy during a global pandemic?

Well said.

Lol. Moh improves his 1500m PB by 6 seconds, his 5000m PB by 11 seconds and sets a NA record and goes 10th all time then gets to have fun with his team. He's probably stoked, and hopefully is gonna get some bank in bonuses for that 12:47.
Genuinely, what does he gain by travelling just as covid rates globally are starting to rise again, somehow getting through a US-EU travel ban, all for one meet? The payday ain't gonna be that good - espec. since that record is probably worth something. Imagine going all the way to Europe like Van Niekerk and testing positive? Not worth it.
Also the folks chugging the anti-BTC haterade, how many other clubs have put on this many top quality meets, livestreamed them, put up the youtube vids of the meet with no paywall. I've never been a BTC fanboy, but you'd think they'd just been sitting in Portland doing nothing for 2 months the way some of you all are chatting. It's a pretty pathetic look.

That really sucked. Waste of fitness.
It's hard to go and push yourself to the max 4 times in a row in a non-competition setting. Competition definitely would have made these efforts feel easier from a mental standpoint. Most on the team probably peaked for the first 2 meets. Understand the 1st meet they held is when the US trials were supposed to be held and they ran a normal season routine even knowing the Olympics (and trials) were cancelled. Others likely shifted training in hope there would be a season resuming in the fall. The diamond league announced it would be starting early-mid August back in early May.
Pretty much everyone got what they needed the 1st two meets so what's the point of training super hard and risking injury afterwards? The job was done. I would have liked to see more this meet, but I recognize that's just being a greedy fan of the sport. You don't. There's plenty of top level athletes around the world who have done next to nothing so far and might end up skipping the whole season. Bowerman got everyone's track fix thru July, now it's time for the diamond league. Move on.

The commentary by Chris Derrick and Ryan Hill was so good. The races wouldn't have been nearly as interesting without it as I don't know half these people and there are absolutely no stakes.
Wish regular track and marathon commentary were like this, full of insider personal knowledge making runners into personalities. Old guy commentators and general announcers can't even recognize who is who sometimes and won't put themselves on the line by even saying if someone's form is good or if someone's flagging. They'll just talk about the sure shot the whole time in order to not be wrong.
That is like the majority of televised track and field...

What an absolute waste
Yeah how dare runners, in a cancelled season, have fun and enjoy the sport.
Why? Lol. Run an all out 1500. I could run another a few days later In almost the same time. That's not abnormal at all.
In HS we race every weekend. Pretty normal.
Exactly! This might be the best shape mo will ever be in. Probably. 1247 is monstrous. Score a nice 10k pr! (Unless he has no interest in that event, that I could understand)
I totally agree. The events were fun to watch. Great commentary. Mixed it up with events. And also put down some stellar times in main events. Can't complain at all there.
My only gripe really is outsider69 Insisting you can't run 3 hard efforts in a season. That's just wrong.
No critique of btc and honestly don't care if they race more or not. I'm glad for what they did.
I just know personally if I'm in the best shape of my life is try to set a or (like mo in the 10k, if he cares at all about the event) if not, no worries don't bother.
I could see him running 26:40. That'd be awesome

They DID run an all out 1500.
Also, you understand the difference between running a 1600 or 3200 every weekend and running 5ks and 10ks, right?
That they ran to "complete their minimal races to fulfill their contract" is exactly the problem.
Shelby, Mo, and Lopez will never again have a good opportunity to chase a 10K PR while this fit. They will regret that one day.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
