Being British. or American is not a race. The clerk was being xenophobic, not racist.

Thanks for the contributions. Makes one wonder...is there a nation with a diverse population where there is no racism, or is it inherent? Be nice to know that it can happen. It'd be interesting to see what countries with multi ethnic populations score highest in beating racism.
don't worry little bird, America is a special place, #1 in every conceivable way and nothing anyone can say is a threat to ever change your mind. So sleep, little worried bird, nestle down into your nest and sleep. Everything is OK. Nothing can ever be better, so why even try?
I don't live in the US. I live in Miami. So I think I'm qualified to answer this question.
I had lived my entire life in Missouri and Pennsylvania. It wasn't until I moved to Miami, FL that I heard the N-word for the first time. Uttered by Ecuadorians on multiple occasions.
The Cubans are also a bit critical of darker skinned people and especially "Indians."
Long story short, I don't think racism is quite as significant an issue in the United States (up north) as it is in an international community such as Miami.
Unless you're gipsy, subsaharian or moor you'll be very welcome in Spain.
You are welcome but we are going to curse you if you are from France or a drunk British.
BTW law enforcement are a bunch of Ghandis compared to US.
