Good coaches have a method that makes a team competitive at conference and nationals. Great coaches are flexible enough to adapt their method so most, if not all, their athletes see success. I'd rather be coached by Daniels, Rojo, or Carius than Gibby any day.
I lived near W&M when Gibby was there and ran some of the w&m meets there unattached, as well as did some runs around their campus/colonial williamsburg and yorktown battlefield. I remember seeing W&M running pretty fast - I thought they were all out for a tempo, but running at the tempo pace of their slowest guys, but I guess that was just their normal 6 minute pace. Decade plus minor mystery solved.
Why does Gibby feel the need for his men to run at 6 minute pace? What if an athlete is sore and say needs to run 630 pace because of being beat up the day or 2 after a 10k/?
