3 more guys who can just about qualify for the Trials, but will probably fall short of an IAAF standard.
The questions remains, do any of these people receive support from adidas or the group? How do they all pay rent, food, travel, etc?
I actually think THEY pay Tinman. Wasn't Hudson's gang the same way, you pay to be in it?
Precisely. But hey, there will be more club xc titles to cherry pick. Someday.
Plus, it allows the desperate dreamers drawn to run-out Boulder to keep the illusion alive. Can't fault Tinman for fleecing the sheep who show up to roll the ball, he's far from the first and certainly won't be the last.
Just don't understand how most of these guys can afford to live in Boulder with that 0 dollar a year salary + benefits.
What happens when the ball that won't stop rolling meets a wall that can't be moved?

I'm probably not the only one on here who emailed Tinman when I was overtrained in HS and got back some excellent, very timely, and free advice to relax and do my easy runs and workouts at slower relaxed appropriate paces. I improved a lot after hearing that. He is one of the most generous people in the sport and has helped hundreds improve directly, often without charging, and probably thousands indirectly. Whenever his group or the training gets criticized I always think of that when I wasn't hearing it from anybody else. Maybe don't criticize somebody who helps burnt out high-motivation high-schoolers from an anon account unless you regularly help those kinds of runners too?
Define "overtrained"
Pay to play?

Tinman Elite is funny as hell. When Brogan won CIM 2 years ago they bragged all over social media about how he was one of them, a part of the brotherhood. 2 years later they are welcoming him to the team.
Brogan said multiple times after CIM 2018 that he wasn't interested in leaving Des Moines for Colorado, as he still had a full time job (albeit, remote) and didn't want to mess up a good thing. I believe he went to a few training camps in CO not long after CIM, but mentioned he was still unsure of whether or not he'd make the move full time to CO.
Which I can respect. Better find out if you even fit in and get along with the team before moving a few states over to live there permanently.
Question: why are LR message board posters obsessed with the Tinman Elite group?

A: because Tinman is a long time LRC poster and has made outrageous claims per his coaching ability.
Tinman, the social media, the hype...it is all good for the sport. My middle school age kids watch all kinds of running videos now including the Tinman Elite videos (also enjoy Athlete Special, Ben Crawford, etc). Great stuff. Keep it up Tinman Elite! Ignore the haters here, it is silly to have washed up and jealous ex-college runners tear you down. But I guess minimum wage and tiny apartments or living in a parent's basement make one feel quite angry.
"Tianman" is a liberal extremist paid of by the CCP.
Why has Tinman not denounced the atrocities by the Chinese government?
Why has Tinman not publicly voiced support of President Trump in his successful defeat of the Chinese Virus?
This group took one giant step backwards with the loss of Charlie Lawrence.
I like what TME does for the sport, even if that is solely publicity in the form of making running look even just a LITTLE bit “cooler” to current high schoolers on instagram. Hell, even if it doesn’t get any more kids into the sport (though I bet you it does), maybe it’ll help the kids already in the sport be more into it — more immersed in running and students of the sport etc.
My question in all sincerity and without malice: does anyone else think TME’s training is just a bit too easy? I mean, I know they’re all about “keeping the ball rolling”, but eventually keeping the ball rolling won’t do you good if you’re not the MOST talented athlete on the starting line.
I feel like there’s some worth to pushing the envelope, making it hurt, putting up absolutely stupid mileage numbers or fast-paced long runs. I don’t really see any of this from TME. Even their marathoners aren’t running much mileage, and it’s not like they get in an insane volume of quality work in either. If they want to really crack into the tops of the top, shouldn’t they take some risks every so often?
My two cents.
It is just a different approach. It might be too "easy" but then again what do you think is the burn rate out there for guys getting pushed a lot more? Bowerman is the exception here not the rule. As I recall Tinman won the XC team's champs last winter... hard to find another team with bigger strength in numbers apart from BTC.
Funny somebody here asks to define "overtrained".... usually burn outs tend to not to have a clue that they are overdoing it and by experience I think the vast majority of runners at any level tend to end up underachieving, to one extent or another, because of overtraining. As for Tinman's philosophy i can tell you it works very well for young athletes and age group guys....

This is pretty funny to me. Schwartz told Charlie Lawrence the elite team was full when he moved to Boulder a few months ago. Clearly that wasn't the case as evidenced by this news. If Schwartz doesn't think he's fast enough for the elite team that's fine, but why did he lie to Charlie about the team being full when that was clearly not true?
Yeah, like I'm going to automatically believe that Tinman told that to CL, just because you said so? Oh? you heard it from CL! Nobody lies on this planet, even if you are a saint!
So much of what I read on LetsRun are outright lies.
Aluminum man elite told me that Tom Schwartz believes injections of bleach cure COVID-19. I said it AND it's a lie!
Oh, and, by the way, having a fast time on one's resume is only part of the factors weighed in the decision making process to join Tinman Elite, anyway. Anyone knows that! There are a hell of a lot of good runners who wouldn't socially mix with those boys. They don't end up on Tinman Elite for a reason. A good reason.
Cameron Griffith would be better off returning to Australia & training with MTC
The guys on TME really need to learn to stay off the boards. Them coming on here and trying to defend Schwartz and their team really isn't a great look or productive
Agreed. The Tinmen guys keep the ball rolling, so to speak, with the trolls by constantly taking the bait and coming here to defend his honor.
I think because Laterunnerphil is his disciple and always posts what Tinman would prescribe to any situation. That gets annoying after a while.
Also CV is just an excuse to run cruise intervals too fast.
Strongly reminiscent of this situation:
