Learn to save money for retirement.
This!
Have I started saving/investing properly when I started working in my mid 20s, I would have been financially independent and comfortably retired by now. (I am mid 40s, still aiming to retire by 50).
I fully believe that what you prescribe is a worthwhile goal.
But here's the scoop - I, for one, saved voraciously and invested wisely, and now could retire early if I wanted to - about 5 years early. But I am not really sure if I will, in that i have come to value work as something that gives me purpose.
So, this may come as a surprise, but don't take for granted what role work takes in your life. It's not just about a paycheck, though it could be. But on the other hand, given the right circumstances, it could be more than that.
Not sure i I will retire in the coming months or not.
But yes, you are right to plan as if you could retire early, and it does make a difference in several respects - maybe you will want to, or maybe in just how you feel about your position.
