Hmm. A PhD student at George Mason University using 2016 data? Not credible. It's now mid-2020. The 3 major rating agencies upgraded CT's long term bond rating in 2019. Notwithstanding CT's fiscal condition and outlook, the proposed cuts at UConn are a drop in the bucket for Connecticut, and wouldn't move the needle at the state level. These cuts are about historic and ongoing budget gaps at UConn, and the board and administration wanting to close that gap.

Gotta keep Bob Diaco paid somehow! If they drop from the FBS then they drop from whatever baskeball setup the P5 come up with in the coming years that kills the NCAA tournament. They could've been a great fit for the ACC (on par with Syracuse and better than BC or Miami, so far), a school that would bring the league basketball tv money while also providing a weak sister for the football powers to beat up on every season and pad their records towards FBS rankings.
They would only be dropping football down from the FBS to FCS. They are moving back to the Big East so basketball will be fine. They essentially will be doing what Georgetown has done for decades with their setup. Basketball and other sports are Big East while football plays FCS. Instead they are choosing to remain FBS as an independent which will hurt will trying to fill a full 12 game regular season schedule and continuing to cost money.
I know some UConn guys. The program could theoretically be cut but i have it on good word that athletes have been told they shouldn’t worry about it for the foreseeable future
Hopefully this is true, but unfortunately most programs that are cut aren’t giving much warning. The Brown men’s team were told the day it was announced.
Also it appears people are concerned enough to be fundraising the annual cost (300k) for the next 5 years to save it.

You are factually incorrect. The program is fighting for it's life.
Quite a few articles about how cuts are inevitable. It appears because of this warning teams are doing what they can on the front end.

Article on how no matter what happens with the financial situation, Title IX will still be a major factor in who stays and who goes:
"In recent days UConn Athletic Director David Benedict has acknowledged his school’s athletic department faces some difficult decisions. There is UConn budget workshop scheduled for June 12, at which point an athletic department proposal is expected to be submitted. There will be a Board of Trustees meeting on June 24, at which point the proposal is expected to be voted on."

Who you talking to. From what I’ve heard they’re in limbo, supposed to act like everything is ok but are still waiting for Coach Roy to address it
they raised over 1.5m in 10 days through grass roots fundraising efforts
The staff has addressed it. Unfortunately theres not much else they can communicate to the kids at this point.
Did this meeting happen today? Anyone know of outcome?

Pretty much no decision.
“Athletics will present its proposal in open public session during the June 24 full board meeting.” According to local news.

They would dominate the Big East Conference in indoor and outdoor track. Perhaps even in cross country - they had 2 guys sub 14 this year in the 5k. It's crazy they would even consider dropping them when they are almost guaranteed 2 conference championships each year (4 including the women).
This is not the old Big East!!! I don’t think they would win so easy

Well you are right it's not the old Big East....this new Big East is significantly less competitive!!!!
The old Big East had Notre Dame, Miami, Boston College, Louisville, Rutgers, etc. etc.
In the most conservative of estimates this indoor season UCONN men would have won the Big East by 75 points.
