Awesome, Norway sounds like a wonderful place. You probably already know this but don’t ever come to the States. You would be miserable here, it’s a hellhole. Also, there’s a gentleman on this thread who wants to move to Scandinavia. You should reach out to him.
I really don't know what your point here is. You're clearly being snarky, but I just don't understand what point your snark is trying to convey.
Are you trying to say that the US is doing a BETTER job that other Scandinavian countries? That is certainly false.

I think this poster is being genuine and supportive. You should absolutely get out of the United States and move to Scandinavia as soon as possible. It sounds lovely there.
Also, never come back to the US because it’s terrible here, just terrible.

I don’t understand the problem. I’m just trying to be as supportive as possible to people trying to move out of the United States, because it’s horrible here.
I actually hear Norway has some great cross-country skiing, much better than the cross country skiing in the United States.

Wouldn't we need a more stricter lockdown than ever before along with aggressive testing? The virus is far deadlier than the normal seasonal flu and spreads like wildfire. So, as states reopen and people start conjugating close to one another again (beaches, picnics, summer parties, etc.), it'll start rapidly spreading causing people to get sick and clogging up the hospitals once again. ?
Let's face this honestly: Until we get a safe and effective vaccine this virus is going to run rampant and continue to be destructive. People want the lockdowns to end but many don't want to social distance & wear masks. I can't tell you the number of people I see on daily basis violating social distancing and not wearing masks. I was at a local Walmart the other day and at least *half* the customers weren't wearing masks with many of the them senior citizens - the high-risk group nonetheless! And tons of younger people are coming inside in groups of 4 or 5 almost shoulder to shoulder.
Until there is a safe and effective vaccine, a strict lockdown might be the best way to go to stop the spread and dramatically reduce hospitalizations of the many people who end up sick. I just don't think the average American is disciplined enough to wear a mask all the time and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Again...what I'm seeing out there is crazy; large gatherings, young & old not wearing masks, people standing close to one another, etc. ?
What if we don’t find a vaccine? HIV still doesn’t have an effective vaccine.
Let me pose the same question to you:

What do you see as the optimum path forward? Is it the "do nothing" (return to normal behavior) option, or something else?
I am not trying to pick a fight here, I am honestly looking for opinions as to the best way through this balancing illness and loss of life against very real financial and social impacts.
Very well reasoned post.

I would say go the Sweden approach. Let young healthy people go out and about with the hope of eventually gaining herd immunity. Encourage social distancing but don’t make it mandatory. Protect our older and more vulnerable by encouraging them to stay in doors until the virus runs out of viable hosts.

If no vaccine we'd need to develop an accurate test a layperson can use to check they have the virus.
The HIV comparison is quite astute. No vaccine but people who are likely to be I texted (i.e. sex workers) need to certify they are clean. Remember antiviral drugs have been developed to treat AIDS.
Without a vaccine I can imagine a scenario where we would need to self-certify twice a week for a decade until the virus becomes less virulent and/or we develop antivirals. Viruses do tend to become less virulent due to selection pressures - a virus which routing kills it's host will find it difffficult to spread.

*Infected - stupid predictive phone.
How about no! That's basically saying, "Let us party on the backs of the country while the older people are not around." That was the mantra of many hippies in the 1960s. Is partying that important? And this doesn't even affect me with regard to my health. I do not have, nor have I ever had a pre-existing condition. My last physical showed my health was good. But I am an American who truly is in it together for Americans. I don't see how you can say you love America because it's a free country and then create a caste system of age and vulnerability so that you can have fun. You just exposed the diabolical crux of your whole argument across pages and pages in this thread. You're just a reckless fool. Thanks for the clarification. No need to respond. You won't be regarded.

Thank goodness this gave cover for the $7,000,000,000,000 in Wall Street and corporate bailouts. Otherwise the average person would have to have the convulsions of the bank repo markets and the corporate debt stock buyback schemes explained to them.

This is often what happens when preventative measures are effective: people look back and say the problem wasn't really as bad as all the angst that went in to mitigating the problem itself.
