Am I alone here?
I just can't get excited about a 2:09.
Minutes of the US record, minutes off what it takes to even be competivie in the world stage. Its like watching one of those Bowerman perfectly paced time trials on the track but they all run 13:20 instead.
That’s the cranky attitude I had when I woke up with no sleep.
Now I’m just kind of amazed. Who the hell are half these guys? How many people in the world tell me without the help of google who all of the 13 guys in the lead pack are as I hinted at in this tweet I just put out.

It could be good though.
If these nonames can hang on it really says "hey 2:09 isn't special thats what nonames should be running, top dogs should be running 2:06-2:07"
It could help elevate everyone else.
Since 2014, she's had a pretty consistent downward march in her half-marathon, and then two good-size jumps in her marathon times along the way (2.5 minutes in 18 months, and 4 minutes in 15 months, but in Berlin, which isn't exactly a slow course). It doesn't stretch the mind to suggest that the marathon is a little more complicated, and requires a little bit of luck to make it match your potential. Plus, shoes.
Can anyone give me an update of Ben Preisner? He seems to be hanging on according to the online results.
16th mile was at 5min pace.
Would be nice if one of Hall's four pacers would hang back a bit and work with Kellyn Taylor...
But the thing is that most of these runners won't make it, so it's still interesting. I think CJ Albertson dropping off is a sign that this pace is a little fast.
So should I root for the AR? I mean it’s really cool that Kellyn is going for it. Was that the plan all along and they didn’t want to tell anyone? I was wondering that when i saw her up there or did she just say screw it and go for it?
But then again, it’s not really fare to Deena who didn’t have super shoes. And does Kellyn even have super super shoes? What shoes is she in? What shoes are they both i n?

Was in Hudson Elite for a while (with Vaughn) and now trains with McCandless under Steve Jones in Boulder Harriers. Won BolderBoulder citizens race one year. Thought he ran in ATL but not sure at all. Blue collar type, college grad despite a learning disability, good young guy to root for.
Anyone have more info on: C. Mickow, M. Iacofano, E. Roudolff?
Roudolff is French, ran at Portland and was their top guy on their 2017 NCAA runner-up team. The other two, I've sen their names in results a couple times but know nothing about them.
timing company doesn't place the mats. thats the race organizations fault. they probably didnt move them after adjusting the turns a couple days ago. only trust the splits they put online.
I will stop gushing about Butler after this post, but wow. What a run he’s having. 14:46 5k PR and he is still on 2:08:xx pace. He, along with Droddy, have consistently been in the pacer’s heels to keep it honest. He broke his half PR already, just awesome.
Not sure about his story, but I spent some time looking at the stravas of the entrants leading up to this race and Mickow has run almost 2000 miles more than anyone else this year. Pulling for him to pull it off. Looks like his PR is from Atlanta which was his second full.
Biwott is 15 feet behind the front pack now.

Not sure it would do any good. She didn’t have the kind of look on your face that you want with this many miles left to run.
Hall’s right arm is starting to flail a bit more than normal, but this is the first sign of fatigue she’s shown aside from a few grimaces. She still has 4 pacers with her and her leg turnover looks great.

Yes, and he appeared to be dropping fast.

Good find, 7 weeks of 130+ mpw leading up to the race (and many other 130+ weeks the rest of the year).
Mickow ran at University of Illinois, graduated in like 2012 and got back into running the last few years. Was running for Retired Broz TC and has been training solo pounding out 130+ miles weeks
