Nico’s star is rising fast. As good as he was, he is so much better since he went pro and doesn’t have to worry with school anymore. If he stays healthy, he is going to be a superstar by 2028.
amazing finish. why do they bury this on Peacock, this is the kind of race/racers USATF should be promoting on NBC for the whole world to see.
Couldn’t agree more. This race if broadcasted on NBC would have put more eyes on the sport and brought in some new fans. Wish we could have seen some instant replay and slow mo of the finish. The current type of coverage is honestly quite embarrassing.
The finish was impressive. 2:21.5x for the final K for the top 3 finishers. Best I’ve ever seen apart from Jakob last year at Euro Indoors and obviously his 3k in Eugene 2023 and Silesia 2024.
What are everyone's thoughts on the 2-heat finals for the 400. I assume final place is by time. That's a rough go of things if you miss out on the team by a few hundredths of a second to someone you weren't even head to head with.
This is another example of how at this level, everything matters.
I'm looking at the splits now from 1400m-1800m Nico had to run 62.86 (31.4, 31.46) to make up 7 spots on the field. For the same segment Cole ran 64.28 (32.12, 32.16) and lost one spot on the track (1st to second).
You can not tell me this energy cost doesn't make a difference at the end of the race. Basically after that necessary move from Young to even get in position, they then begin the big final 1000m push (2.22). Cole just entered that final 1000m so much more efficiently.
Young had the position on the track to beat him there. Not only that, he had Nuguse there as another body for Hocker to go around. But you can't beat the Olympic 1500m champ and World 5000m champion when you hurt yourself in early stages of the race. There was no reason for him to be in 14th position at any point in that race. Cole was never worse than in 3rd.
There was nothing on Peacock either, so it wasn't "buried" there; the only way to watch today's events was through usatv.tv where it was actually buried. Women's and Men's 3k easily the races we were most interested in.
You can't even find replays of today's events anywhere.
I thought the "live feed" was going to be a play by play of the race as they ran it. That would have been fun to listen to.
Sounds like it was a great race. I can almost picture it in my head...
