I think whenever he realized the pace was slow he should have gone out on his own since he was supposed to be going for the AR. No reason for him to have waited until 2km out. With his current strategy, even if he is in shape to get the AR, he will only be able to do it in a ~12:48 race, and those don't happen too often. At some point if he wants to run a fast 5k he is just gonna have to grow some balls and take charge of a race. I doubt that'll ever happen.

This is why people don't like Rupp. As fast as he is, he's got no balls. He's a follower, not a leader. As a runner, that's pathetic.

Another top 4 finish for Rupp. Looks like he really has to start changing tactics to contend for the win. Not fast enough for a sit and kick win.

Other hurdlers do NOT like Lolo's self-centered attitude, so yes they do not generally celebrate with her. You can see that in meet after meet. And while her time might be just off her personal best, when you throw in Rollins (minus boyfriends) and Nia Ali, Lolo would be hard pressed to make a US team these days.

While setting an American Record in a set-up race may be great on a resume, it does absolutely nothing for the sport. It's like a quarterback playing without a defense against him, a baseball player getting every pitch down the middle or a soccer player scoring a goal without a goalie present.

The sport needs more drama with athletes winning in competitive events and more runners that take a race out to their best ability and less races with pacers dictating a formula for a race.

Waiting to see Jenny Simpson's official time but the BBC guys are saying she missed the record by a tenth of a second... ...
