Farah is a 100m runner who can stretch himself to the 10k by sitting and kicking the last 800M. He can only run superb times if the pacemakers do a good job. He does not have the strength to be a top contender in the marathon. Bekele has range from 3000m to the marathon. He can also front run which helped him to achieve his 5k and 10k world records. He was also known for his devastating kick over the final 400m. His World records were set more than a decade ago. The 26:17 KB is history. Don't expect him to ever do this again now that he is 34. So even if it translates to a 2:00:58 marathon, that could only be done if he were to get back to 26:17 shape. I say that won't happen. His performance in Berlin was KB at 100% of what he is NOW capable of racing. I hope he does decide to race Farah over 10k so that we can see just how close he is to his lifetime peak fitness level. Then we will know if he can improve upon his Berlin time.

Since when has Mo become a 1500 guy? He is primarily a 5k/10k guy who also happens to possess the speed endurance required for a fast 1500.

Geb is the GOAT and will be regardless of Bekele accomplishes from here on out, unless he pulls something crazy like runs sub 2:02 or wins Olympic gold at 38.

If you ask me which one I pick in a race in their prime I take Bekele any day of the week. If you lay their resumes side by side Bekele looks superior. But the GOAT conversation is about more than that when comparing runners of different era's.

Geb revolutionized the sport. Bekele although he lowered Geb track PR's he didn't have the impact on the sport Geb had. Geb always had an "it" factor and charisma kenny just never had. That's why Geb is the Goat to me.

That is a false argument. Few if any 1500 guys have ever ATTEMPTED a 10000 or a half marathon. They were too busy actually participating and competing not chasing money and dodging competition like Farah. Several 1500m guys could run what Farah has run or better. El G, Komen, off the top of my head.

Bekele has range from 1500 to marathon. His 3:32 1500m PR was a tactical race against actual 1500m runners and he almost won the race. The first lap was in 53 or 54 seconds. That means he was good for likely 3:29 that day. There is NOTHING Farah fan do better than Bekele.

I'm not sure how this affects the debate, but one thing significant is that Geb had to overcome another GOAT candidate during all of his career. Tergat was many people's top dog before Geb came along. Geb faced Bekele at the end of his career, but he was beyond his peak, and changing his focus from track to roads by that time, so those head-to-head comparisons aren't quite fair.

Yeah I'd say he is, and now I'll sadly never be pumped by another letsrun marathon preview ever again that lacks Bekele or Kipchoge. Sorry Rupp, but maybe you should run 6 minutes faster next time.
