Not quite. In one day races, all is fair and accepted. Crash and you're done. Mechanical; too bad.

Cycling is more popular because the event is marketed as a race among the worlds best, not a "lets focus on the parade of weekend warriors"

If you're a cycling fan, it might seem like they try to market it that way, because they do a nice job of covering the competition angle. But cycling is similar to running in that there are relatively few serious fans who know the top riders, care about competition, and so on. The sport does *not* survive on the viewership of serious fans. Instead, cycling is packaged in a way that it appeals to non-fans and casual fans. The largest audience is senior citizens who enjoy watching the landscape roll by! (seriously). The same type of viewer that turns on golf to see the color green and nap in front of the TV. This is also why the big sponsors in cycling often have nothing to do with cycling (e.g. banks).

Coverage of running sucks right now because the producers are trying to create a package that is appealing to a broad audience who may not care about top competition. I'm not saying they're doing a good job, but I think the strategy is correct. Increase the audience, attract sponsors, grow the sport, and then you've got a product where it makes sense to pay for quality commentators.

My father is a linguist and he says it's Jeff-Ree in the English language. Period. So you are just wrong. Just because he might say his name with an accent don't mean it changes the way the word is pronounced for everyone else. Think about it.

Algonquin is French but English speaking people pronounce

it very differently and certainly incorrectly.
