He ducked the 3000 against the world's best (HG and DG from Ethiopia) to run the mile, and even then he ducked a mile race with Nick Willis and others.

This is the representative specimen of the professional distance runner in the US? No wonder the real media don't care.

And how often do race winners at 5 and 10 lead the race before the final 2 laps? If he's not leading, it means he's going for the win regardless if that happens or not. When Ritz led for a lap or so towards of the end of the 10 (WC in 2013?), he knew he wasn't in contention for the win. He went to the front because he knew that was his departing gift. (Not knocking Ritz. Huge fan here.)

You sit here and take shots at Rupp for wearing a Nike Sportswear Destroyer Jacket and retro Jordan X's and lament that he needs to grow up and dress like an adult. I'm sorry, would you prefer Docker Chinos, Columbia Titanium jacket and Mizuno Wave Riders??? I'm happy you appointed yourself Lets Run's Chief Arbiter of Cool but your designation really should be revoked.
I find it particular refreshing that Rupp doesn't dress like 99% of distance runners off the track. That he can rock Jordans to a press conference proves that he has a life outside of running. He probably listens to hip-hop, stays up on youth culture, and frequents sites like hypebeast and high snobiety.
Seriously though, can you let the kid breathe and quit hanging from his nuts???

His outfit was pretty fresh, not going to lie, but he just seemed awkward in it. If I hadn't known who Galen Rupp was, I'd probably think he was a pretty cool dude who's got "swag" but has a goofy face and voice.

And Jordan IVs > Jordan Xs. Tsk tsk Galen, you should have known better.

It's awesome to see him run as fast as he does, but still.
I think it's well put. He's not directly abrasive, but he has a quiet arrogance, a sense that he's above other people, doesn't look eye to eye with competitors. Maybe it's not arrogance, but just a lack of social skills. Either way, his personality combined with his obnoxious way of dressing (he would NOT fit in even in a high school), make him a bad ambassador for the sport. I was at the grand prix, and he was one of the least exciting athletes to see. Nick Symmonds and Jenny Simpson should teach lessons on interacting with fans, and galen should attend.

Trust me, I am a high schooler; he'd fit PERFECTLY in with the way he dresses.

So he is willing to start and finish at the Olympics and therefore a guy who stands up and races the best? Weak indeed.
