The VDOT comparison tables and formulae were done before the advent of widespread EPO use and therefore underestimate the comparable 5k/10k performances. EPO boosts your 5k/10k ability more than 1500/Mile. Not sure why the marathon and 3k are inline with the other WRs though.

it's crazy to me that anyone on this board truly believes that K. Bekele couldn't run a faster half marathon than Geb.

He's run faster than gebresalassie at pretty much every distance, holds world records, and basically just ran the marathon world record.

I would argue that Kenny could probably have gotten close to breaking 58 minutes back near when he ran 26:17 if he trained for it. tadese never really beat bekele in track, and didn't run faster in the marathon OR 10k, so......

I'm not being belligerent, just actually want to know if people posting here think Bekele couldn't have run faster at the half than Geb. it's pretty much a meaningless race distance too, fwiw

to me it's like saying,

" Yeah, I totally acknowledge that bekele has the world record 5k, and the world record 10k, but he definitely could have beaten geb in the 8k, because, well, geb ran a fast 8k once."

No need. Just micro-dose your EPO, or use gear that that the testers haven't learned about yet (or don't want to know about).

Look at UKAD. Pretty much all their 'busts' are for PEDs that have been in use since man first wanted to lift a particularly heavy stone or sprint after a herd of deer. (Clenbuterol, Stanozolol, HGH, Ephedrine...)

Hard to compare sprints to long distance but IMO Bekele is the overall best runner ever. Thought so since before the marathon too. But, I may be a bit biased because he's the 5000m GOAT and 5000 is my main event. But, I think his WR's are the strongest (gonna be the longest before being broken)

Bekele righteously deserves the acclaim...but one thing that isn't being said is how great Wilson Kipsang ran. Kipsang has been thru a subpar patch recently, DNF'ing in Beijing, and getting dropped elsewhere. In this race, he not only returned to form, but set a new P.R., which as a former WR holder, says something. Hopefully, he too will race in London next year against Bekele & Kipchoge at the World Champs.

26:17 is still greater than 2:03:03.

The marathon is still ripe.

What we've seen now is that post-prime track guys can run the fastest marathons ever.

Bekele still, is probably no match for Farah.

"Still"? Bekele beat him easily at the Great North run then barely lost to him while injured in 2012. Now he just almost ran a world record. You are being ridiculous if you think Bekele is no match for Farah.
