Announcer said Mackay and ESP must still be friends. Do we know if that's true? I heard there were some issues on the team but not am not sure who they were between.
Anyways, Mackay ran ESP down and got the win. Big upset.
But we expect someone who finished 5th in the World Championship final five months ago and ran 1:58 two weeks ago to make the US indoor final.
Rojo said that, actually:
"What a disaster of a race. And she really had no excuses. She is a 1:55 woman. She just ran 1:58. And she runs 2:01.71? Yes she used a little extra energy early on between 300 and 400 but not 6 seconds worth."
201 - 6 = 155, so Rojo apparently expects her to run 1:55 every race.
Rojo does this kind of thing all the time actually. He is obsessed with time. He will get fascinated by the fact that so-and-so only lost to Cole Hocker by 0.2 seconds in a completely tactical race, and compare it to so-and-so losing to Cole Hocker by 2 seconds in a time trial, as if they are remotely comparable.
Crazy run for Mackay. Looks like a pb by 5 seconds in a race with a first 1000 of 3:01-02. Has to be her best result since her 1500 at the 24’ trials. ESP is clearly in shape right now, that was no easy win for Mackay.
Mackay was my upset pick for 2nd in the 1500, but this result makes me wonder if she saw Hiltz and ESP logjam the mile so she’s stretched herself out in her training.
Is she in 8:24 shape?
Kind of makes me wonder about moving up a distance outdoors too. Awesome run.

I thought the falling out was between Heather MacLean and Mackay, but who knows about the rest of them.
Great finish by Mackay powering away from ESP. I'm so sick of hearing about moms and cows.
I'm so glad the American women are racing like this. I remember the days where it was commonplace for a sit and kick jogfest. This type of racing is WAY more interesting.

Sure, it does make her a 1:55 runner semantically. However Rojo (and you?) are acting like her expected time is now 1:55 in all races going forward because she ran it once. That's not how it works.
No one said that, I don't think you know what words mean.

If a male high schooler runs 1:55, do you expect him to run 2:01 indoors? I would expect him to run ~1:58.
