It's hilarious that our sport eats itself. Anytime we have a funny, outspoken athlete the letsrun gurus have to complain about it and cut her down. I've never seen another sport enable such self-destruction. Still don't understand what was wrong with what she said.

Runners are a funny lot. What other groups, sports or otherwise, makes such a concentrated effort to tear down BOTH those better than them AND those 'hobbyist' just starting out.

It's a shame that the main forum for our sport encourages such a troll-first mentality. The noise drowns out the signal most of the time.

Mike Jay is the best in the business. I see nothing wrong with what he said yet she called him out. Did you hear how many times they mentioned the height of the French soccer player? Where is the outrage?

did they precede that by saying the French soccer players just finished playing with their Barbies?

It's not really accurate to portray it as Allie simply complaining about mentions of her height. But internet trolls are never really that concerned about accuracy, are they?

I don't think the Mike Jay comment was egregious, but it was probably more like the final straw.

Multiple runners in the same race said they thought it seemed weird at the time as well.

The runners in the race only heard the mention of height and weight. Yet they spoke out againa that. So they are all crybabies. Why do women wear makeup if they don't care about what they look like? What is wrong with a factual observation? What if he mentioned her major or her high school or her year in school? Outrage. Those things are irrelevant to how she is running while height and weight have an impact.

No, the people in the race who were all offended only heard a factual comment about her height and weight. The barbie comment was from a year ago. Mije Jay akso talked about her wins and her career and her major and her homestead. That is why he is the best in the business. But now one factual comment turned her against him and attracted the attentuon of the other runners. Dont botger ever watching another sporting event becayse they introduce athletes by height and wdight and age and wins and losses and college attended. Not female dustance runnefs though. It's not bad enough that nobody watches distance running. Now the commentators can't comment. Nobody knows how good they have it.

I'm sure most of the runners in the race were well aware of the "Barbies" comment from last year. Ostrander isn't exactly an unknown in the event, it was on a national broadcast, it's a relatively small group of athletes at the top level of NCAA in the steeple and they talk.

If you bothered to read the article, the point was about how weird it was to mention it over the loudspeaker at that crucial time in the race, not that it could never be mentioned. I don't think anyone has said height and weight can't be mentioned so stop pretending that's the issue. The issue is the weird focus and overemphasis on it, especially during the peak moment of the race.

I'm a big fan of Allie O. She has a lot of heart, and it would be really nice if she broke 9:30. But this is the toughest year ever to qualify for World's from the USA (Coburn, Frerichs, Quigley). My question is: will Quigley break 9 this year?

Last I read she is attending Boise State for grad school in the fall and will use her last year of eligibility.
