19 days out is NOT too close to the marathon to do 7 x mile at 10k pace - it's a great time to do that workout.

She certainly may not run 2:25. That would be one of the best US women's debut times ever and this is NYC not Berlin. But your stance that this is a dumb workout at a dumb time is, well, dumb. And to watch one workout and conclude "she has too many muscle fast-twitch fibers for the marathon" is even worse.

So a signifier of good marathon shape is only being able to do fewer reps?

I'll be surprised if she doesn't run 2:23-24 or better even though it is her debut and on a course worth several minutes more than London or Berlin. (about 151 seconds if I recall). She is in great 10k and half marathon shape, we know. It doesn't always happen in the debut and at New York, but she has just not faltered for a long time.

Doing 7 x mile in 4:56 is a bad sign compared to only being able to do 5 reps?

That's weird, because I remember a workout of 10 x mile in ~ 5:00 that Mary Keitany has done.

I like the idea of having a fast 10K PR for the marathon and even a fast recent 10K.

For example:

1) Carlos Lopes- Olympic marathon gold medal, WR marathon of 2:07:12 (Olympic silver medal in 10K, recent 27:17 10K PR was 2nd fastest 10K of all time at the time he did it, and faster than Henry Rono).

2) Eliud Kipchoge-Olympic marathon gold medal (Olympic silver in 5K, WC gold in 5K with PR of 12:46, 10K-26:49 PR), 2:03:05 marathon.

3) Galen Rupp- Olympic marathon bronze medal in his 2nd marathon (Olympic 10K silver medal, 26:44 10K PR).

4) Sammy Wanjiru- Olympic marathon gold medal (10K PR 26:41)

5) Haile Gebrselassie- WR marathon of 2:03:59 (2 Olympic gold medals in 10K with PR of 26:22).

6) Kenenisa Bekele- 2:03:03 marathon PR (Olympic 5K gold medal, 2 Olympic 10K gold medals, WR holder at 12:37.35 5K and 26:17.53 10K).

Ms. Molly Huddle is the American 10K record holder at 30:13.17 (...and is married to a Canadian distance runner?). Ms. Molly Huddle might also be Irish.

Ms. Huddle has been training hard for her marathon debut. Sometimes she trains in Flagstaff...as can be seen by this photo of Molly with a pine tree in Flagstaff:

I ran a 2:23:3X Marathon back in 1982 with only 30:48 PR on the track for 10K (30:45 in X-C). Her 14:38 and 30:13 tell me she should be able to run 2:22 Low in a non tactical race. In a tactical race she should be able to close great like 32:30-32:40 or so. Weather is supposed to be perfect: Morning low of 48, and 55 high....wall to wall sun--plus an extra hour of sleep.

Light NW winds....at 5-10 MPH. Now is her chance.

She will place 2nd in 2:24

Rupp beat today's NYCM winner at the Olympics. So let's say Rupp would have won today..... I think Rupp would rather have his Olympic bronze than an NYCM win. I know I would.

Quick test (don't cheat): who won bronze in men's 2012 or 2008 olympic marathon? By next olympics no one will barely remember who got bronze in Rio, but if Galen had won today everyone would remember. For cryin' out loud, people are STILL talking about Meb's 2009 win in NYC. Look at this headline from 2 days ago:

Sounds like Galen is going to spend one more year on the track during summer 2017. Might finally see him in NYC next year, or Boston 2018.
