Another fool. Marathons are always run on the hottest day at the hottest hour of the day. The average high in August in Rio is mid 70s, not high 70s low 80s. Average lows are mid 60s.
Americans are ill prepared to run in a southern winter climate. Mentally that seasons are flipped does not compute.

Comfortable is defined as 65-75 degrees. That does not sound very comfortable for a marathon. Cool defined as 50-65 degrees. 82% of the time the temperature in August is above 65 degrees which is not 'comfortable' for a marathon. Ideal marathon temps are between about 40-50 degrees and overcast with light to no winds.

Take you whine up with the weather experts. What was the weather like for London this weekend? How about the horrible temperatures at the Beijing Olympics?
What people cannot grasp is that it will NOT be HOT and Humid during August in Rio. Trolls like you lost, mate.
There are still people out there arguing that the Beijing Marathon by Wanjiru was the single greatest Marathon ever, because they don't know how to read historic temperatures.
Temps in Beijing were 58 at the start and 68 at the finish line (a couple degrees more inside the birds nest but that's just one lap). There was no wind and most of the race was in the shade.
Rio should be high 50's/ low 60's, which is a bit warm for Kenyans, so Mo and Galen will have a bit of an edge there...

... I should add that the conditions are good for Mo and Galen. They are equally good for the other runners. No edge to anyone. Times run should be very good.

A quirk of the methodology used to create the list order. The list is ordered shortest three times per nation . We'll see athletes in the list without an ordinal more often as nations announce their selections.The Japanese runners with no assigned ordinal in front are there because ,like USA, Japan has announced its team the Japanese runners with an ordinal attached are the announced team members those without a rank are there because they conform to the sorting algorithm.

This is good for perspective... even after limiting KEN and ETH entries there will be a lot of solid PRs at the line. Of course we all know PRs only tell so much. Would be cool to know what Rupp's LA SweatFest performance would have translated to, say, this year's Dubai.
Also, am i reading this wrong? Why does this list allow 6 dudes from Japan?
My official rupp guess would be finishing in the 6-12 range (really going out on a limb here, i know). A couple top guys will surprise us and suck/DNF, and a couple next-tier guys will surprise us and run top 6.

All of the best marathoners are expected to run the Olympics--that is how it usually works. Yes, 15th-20th in low 2:12. The 2:09 is a best possible time predication with better than 10th not expected. Ryan Hall won 10th place in Beijing 2008 running 2:12.

I give Rupp a strong 4% chance of getting a medal, probably 4.7% and could be rounded to 5%

Sub 2:10 will medal. Rupp might run sub 2:10 but he won't medal. It will be a good run for him and a positive sign for the future.
