I thumbed you down because you could have said this a month ago without reservation. It took you til milk rose to figure it out which makes you a follower.
It would have been hard to have takeaways from this year’s Millrose Games a month ago.
A month ago Nuguse’s 3k/mile PRs were 10 & 6 seconds slower, respectively; it would have been odd to speculate on him winning global gold “without reservation”. You could well have predicted that Monson and Klecker would beat Cranny & Teare in BTC’s season openers, but you couldn’t have noted that it happened, which is simply what that poster did.
Sorry their post wasn’t profound or cutting edge enough for your standards.
His closing lap was just phenomenal! He literally made the other runners look like they were standing still. I would actually be really interested to see what he could run in a high quality 800m meet at the moment. His current PB of 1:48 would be history.
3:49-50 without the cheater shoes but still very good.
Do people still seriously think the shoes make a 3 second difference in a mile? Johnny Gregorek would have run 3:46 or Yomif Kejelcha 3:44 indoors with them? Why have the slew of 3:28-3:30 guys not taken the jump to El G territory and run 3:25/3:26 if they make 3 seconds? Somebody tell Jakob he is actually in worse shape than when he was 17 when he ran 3:30 in old spikes.
People overrate the spikes, particularly at 1,500. There isn't nearly the evidence that we see from the road shoes, which no doubt make a difference.
You seriously think that 3:50-4:00 milers benefit, but 5-7 seconds faster for the mile there is no benefit? It's a statistical phenomenon. There's just an order of magnitude+ fewer 3:26-3:28 1500 runners, and the number of those performances can be greatly influenced by a single runner. A single front runner like Tim being a little off/past peak for the past few years has a huge impact on sub-3:30 times.
For what it's worth, the Stats Gangsta calculator predicts 3:44-low for an evenly-paced mile. Obviously nobody is going to hit perfectly even splits, but he could definitely dip under 3:47 in a time trial setting. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him go 3:28 this summer.
It would be nice to see somebody really attack times down around 3:44. Maybe this guy has the talent to do it.
They may not have advertised it as a WR attempt, but going out in 153 means you are certainly taking a shot. They just slowed down too much once sowinski stepped off.
I just watched the race. He just lopes along. Such a smooth leg stride. Judging by his speed and stride-length, he could be the only current runner with a 3:26 in him. Time will tell but he's exciting for the sport.
Somehow everyone is missing the real pattern here for indoor greatness. Yared, Yomif, Jakob, the list goes on. I look forward to seeing the debut of Yosh Kerr and Yollie Hoare when they figure it out.
To the people in this thread accusing Naguse of doping, just because you have to dope to run a 28 minute 5k at your local Turkey Trot doesn't mean everyone does. The worst dopers generally have little going for them outside sport and therefore want to maximize earnings over a short time frame (cough Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, Alberto Salazar). From listening to Naguse it seems like his big goal running wise was to be an Olympian. He did that his senior year of college. Last year, he peaked for NCAAs then didn't run great after that. And now it seems like his goal is to just try to get as good as he can get, make a run at Paris and stick around no later than LA, then to be a dentist. News flash: a dentist makes more in a year (especially the oral surgeons) than 99% of track athletes make in their careers. Naguse has already been accepted to dental school. The only thing that could/would threaten that? Abusing prescription drugs (which almost all banned performance enhancing drugs are). It's too much risk, I'd be very surprised if he was doping. Dude has too much going for him outside of running. And that's why I think he's running great--no pressure.
If he is at the top of the sport the chances are he could be doping - like anyone else at that level. The only thing that says he isn't is that he hasn't failed a drug test - yet - which was Houlihan before she failed a drug test. Or Kiprop, or Ramzi, or Amos, or any Kenyan or Russian - and so on.
ON Just sold a boat load of Shoes! Or at least they will when these spikes are available. And how are they not available? Nike would have a new colorway out in a month to market something this spectacular. Is ON leaving millions on the table?

This is peak american cope and delusion. Guy runs 1 good race and instantly gets proclaimed to be the next ElG. And what is that nonsense about his stride? It's not the 80's, not even biomechanics PHDs know what good stride is, but boomers on letsrun will still convince themselves that they can judge a persons ability purely from their stride.

You could be right but I'm looking with my eyes and I know when I see talent.
He's a natural just like El G.
I did also say time will tell.
Regarding a smooth stride, more WR holders have one than not.
He is in the 1,500m in Madrid. Have to think the WR is top of mind after this. His mile converts to 3:30.5, slightly faster than Jakobs WR. Given the huge last lap, could we see sub 3:30?
Absolutely insane the jump hes made after only 6 months as a pro.
Well we all know why the improvement. Tis no secret. We'll see if the "glow" lasts until summer, but still I'm not so sure if he can do much in the WCs since the 3:30 was a fun run for Jakob in the middle of winter training and makes 3:28 flat look easy outdoors.
