He may not be the GOAT but he is responsible for the trend of racing rather than editing the marathon. He had 14:11 as a 5k split in his London win and as far as I know that has only been bettered by Kimetto so far. Wanjiru may not have been able to run 2:02 but he was EXCITING as you said. Destroying Kebede in Chicago was historic considering his manager didn't even consider him to be in shape.

cierpinski was part of a doping program and his own doping schedule is documented. if it weren't a European-controlled federation, he would have lost his medals already, along with the other Euro cheaters from systematic programs, and Frank Shorter would be a double Olympic marathon gold medalist.

So far Kimetto has produced the greatest marathon performances in a limited period of time similar to what Komen did for track in the late 90's. Time will tell if he can continue to perform at this level.

For me Kipsang is still the best around. We know that Kimetto is only slightly better than E Mutai but Kipsang has 3 big wins over Mutai.
Agree with earlier post that G Mutai's NY run is best Mar performance ever.
