Rupp drops out

I think its better that he dropped out and did a workout after he was sure that it was okay versus risking it and potentially injuring himself for the rest of the season and part of the outdoor season.

a lot of oregon runners have had foot injuries. so this must have played on rupps mind, with the sore foot in new shoes.

too bad but he'll be looking to blow the doors off the next race. no on likes the dnf. it bothers them a lot.

Why would he experiment with a new pair of shoes in a race?

Rupp dropping out of an actual COMPETITIVE RACE is actually a much better bet than him winning it.

Just off the top of my head, looking at DIAMOND LEAGUE RACES ALONE:

Rupp has had a DNS in a 10,000 and a DNF in two 5,000.

And he has NEVER one a SINGLE major international race EVER.

The posters above are right. He runs incredibly well in paced time-trials against college guys he can lap twice, but in a real race he come undone OFTEN.

This attitude of QUITTING when it's not Rupp-certified is fine for someone like Centrowitz, who has some racing savvy. But a guy like Rupp doesn't have those instincts and leads to learn them IN REAL RACES. There's a reason he has NEVER WON ONE.

It's WON not ONE buddy. I'll give you a pass though, since clearly you're mentally ill.

He looks like a walking experiment for the pharmaceutical industry between the acne and leathery skin.

What would have been accomplished by winning this race anyway? A 3:57?? He should have stuck to the plan and gone for the world record in a low key meet. Then he'd be coming out of this with a sub 3:50, possibly an American or even a world record, and a lot of confidence. Here he got to mix it up for 3/4 and start to kick but the other way it would have been one of the highlights of his career. And don't forget that Rupp has the silver medal, a number of high places at World's, many American titles and records, and many NCAA titles, including the triple leading Oregon to the indoor championship.

London 2012 - silver medal.

2013 - 4th WC 10,000. 6-time U.S. champ in the 10,000, won both 10 and 5 in '12 Olympic Trials. Yeah, he only runs well in paced time-trials. Yes, he did run well against college guys too... 6x NCAA champion.

Either racing and winning this race was unimportant or Rupp's injury is more serious than they're saying. I can't figure out which. Or maybe it's both.

Bullsh*t! He was 0 for 2 in qualifying for the last indoor World Championships, and was just lucky that Manzano didn't want to run so he was able to run. Funny how people forget that.

And that's all you've got. Otherwise, you've got to admit that he comes through far more often than he doesn't. Wouldn't you be thrilled to have the success that Rupp has had?! What other American-born runner can even come close to Rupp in the last 20 years? Yet, the wannabes are going to criticize every opportunity they can... he clothes, his dnf, his looks.

Who were you when you made your predictions? This is where it helps to have a consistent name.

I want to be a Rupp and NOP fan but they make it hard sometimes. Rupp/Centro race well when it matters so that's the important part. Wish they'd stop dressing like 16 year old mall kids though.
