Guy that jumped in the way at finish of Berlin Marathon?

Sorry, but as a finisher of this year's Boston Marathon, I find this guy's actions completely unfunny, and I also find it completely inexcusable on the part of a major marathon to not have police officers lining the finish straightaway facing the crowd. And I agree with the previous post that some street justice would have been nice too.

They guy was running on the streets of Berlin. What is wrong with that? Do you all want to be street Nazis deciding when and how you are able to run? That is crazy. If you want to go run at 3 AM you should be able to. You begin withholding running rights and then what do you have? North Korea!

Please read carefully - at no point did I propose lining the entire marathon with fence. I said there should be police officers along the finish straightaway facing the crowd.

That guy is awesome. What an entrepreneur. I would hire him for my marketing deptartment in a heartbeat.

People are too serious and sensitive. Fans joining in to celebrate momentous moments in sports history has a long tradition. Look at Hank Aaron's 715th HR:

Joining is different then getting in the way and blocking.

I question the security that allowed this to happen at the finish line. You can't have complete security along the whole route but you would think the finish would have better security than that. It could have been a nut like with de Lima in Athens, or the guy who stabbed Monica Seles or whatever. Security should have been tighter than that.

When the guy is doing this for free advertising a piddly fine is not sufficient deterrent. Put him behind bars for a few months. And I would mind a bit if the police felt they had to subdue him for resisting arrest.

The issue is not fencing. There was a fence and guy jumped over it. Unless you want an unjumpable fence (hello razor wire) the issue is the number and placement of security guards. This year they focused on securing the perimeter to avoid an attack like at Boston, which may explain why they were less focused on securing a good photo op. Next year they'll do both.

Enhanced security measures (just like the ones he mentioned) would have prevented this opportunist from ruining the WR finish, would have cost next to nothing (for 1 hour of 50 officers) and nobody cares about how the spectators would be affected.

I thought this was a hilarious AND harmless publicity stunt.

This is EXACTLY what this sport needs- a little levity to lighten things up! Look at all the nastiness and pessimism on this message board- a lot of the people on this board could use this guys spirit (not to mention his company's services judging by PNS threads!)

Bottom line: stop being so negative about this you loosers.

The guy was just looking for a photo op and having a good time, like most of the people in the race. That African almost ruined it though by trying to pass him and almost gave him an elbow. My friend's going to write an article about it and try to get him DQ'd, though I've moved on with my life at this point.
