So the pacing for the 3000m has been updated - Prakel now asked to hit 2000m in 4.55 - even if he can’t we know the lights will be moving that tempo.
But either way this now seems like something really fast is on (as opposed to what it was a few days ago). Maybe they asked Jakob how he felt last night and he said he wants to go for it? Also McSweyn and Wale are in - is McSweyn being pulled in as a pacer?
Here’s the thing - in a one off race if Jakob went through in 4.55 I think he could absolutely close out in 2.24 and run the WR. Can’t say for sure that’s happening here but these updates splits really are interesting.
For the life of me I can't understand why they don't just respect the sport enough to leave it in metric. Only people watching are track nuts anyway.
I respectfully disagree. Gotta be accessible to a broad audience. Even as someone who follows the sport, I find 6’8” more impressive and easier to grasp than 2.03 meters. They list the metric marks on the screen, so that’s a good way to appeal to all.
Also: wasn’t the most exciting race yesterday the men’s mile?
If it's impressive we are going for how about we just skip the numbers all together. 6'8'' = "She jumped over LeBron". 6'9'' = "She just flew over T-Mac". 6'10'' = "KD just got a new haircut".

That’s a good way to think about it. Would be even better if they actually jumped over those NBA players!

This kind of post is exactly what live discussion threads are all about 👏

Anyone that watches field events at all only pays attention to metric. It is way easier to follow in metric.
and who watches field events outside of the competitors immediate circle of friends and family? i'm quite handy when it comes to math w/o a calculator, but even i don't want to take the time to convert metric to imperial to get a better perspective.
as an example, i just went through all the results LR posted and skip over anything listed in metric because i don't got time to do the conversion.
oh y'all want to tell i'm not a real fan? i've been following the sport faithfully for 31 years and have been a head track coach at the high school level for over a decade. have been posting here for over 20 years. running in general is my life.
but still, metric marks are like someone speaking a foreign language to me. and this is coming from someone with a strong background in the maths/sciences that thinks the entire world should be on the metric standard. BUT IT ISN'T!
