Honestly with those guys (Aregawi, Cheptegei, Gebrhiwet, Krop, Kejelcha, Kiplimo) i don't think that Ingebrigtsen has any chance of winning 5.000m in Budapest. Probabily he got a chance in a slow tactical race but if they go that fast they smash him in that distance.

Jakob is strong as heck too. We’ll see. Just because it beats Katir doesn’t mean it beats Jakob.

Do you really think so? Two years ago he was two seconds behind the leaders at 3000 in Firenze. So a 59 and then he was there. He is capable of running much much faster than the 12:48 at that time. So if they go they have to run faster than 12:40.

I would have liked to see Jakob in a 5.000m race against those guys in the DL. Still don't understand why he never runs 5.000m in DL events.

At 12:40 pace in 5000m Jakob weakness will show up. The 1500m style of finish will be no more at play.
Of course he was jogging last year at 13:09.

Very far from the world record -12:35.36- that the Ugandan established on this same track at the Louis II stadium in 2020, which was the objective of the organizers.
A battle in which the Spanish athlete did not want to enter, who, without following the rhythm of the Ethiopians and Kenyans , always remained in the leading pack waiting to deliver the final blow in the final meters.
"The other athletes were very strong , but I am also strong now, so I tried to win until the last meters," Mohamed Katir explained in statements to the organization, who did not hide that his goal in Monaco was to snatch the European record from Ingebrigtsen.
"Actually, my goal was to achieve the European record, so I'm very happy ," stressed the Murcian athlete, who now only thinks of the Budapest World Cups, after passing, yes, by the Spanish Championships that will be held next week in the Valencian town of Torrent.
"My next goal is to qualify for Budapest in the Spanish Championships, but my biggest goal, obviously, is the World Championships ," concluded Mohamed Katir, who won the bronze medal in the 1,500m at the Eugene World Championships as well as silver in the 5,000m at the European Championships in Munich.

That way of qualifying has allways seemed crazy for me. Katir should never have to run a race to qualify for WC for Spain. Todays race should be more than enough. If he gets food poisoning before the spanish championship he cant go to the WC? Its so crazy. Wasted time and effort, he should be able to relax, train and focus on Budapest.

You might be right, but I dont think Kiplimo looked so convincing today.

This is why I think countries should do at least one discretionary pick. If you have an athlete who’s run under 12:50 amongst a bunch of 13 minute runners, I think it’s a no brainer to send them and would be so beneficial to that athlete.
I don’t think they’re going to drop Jakob. They were only 3 seconds ahead of Katir who is 1 second behind Ingebritsen in the 1500 and probably 3 in the 5000. With no rabbits it’s going to be difficult to run 12:40 in Hungary.
All the people that were predicting Kiplimo/Aregawi winning were wrong.
An outsider came and took the first place.
Tomorrow I will not be surprised if Katir run 12:42 or lower, depending of the conditions.
You are calling Hagos Gebrhiwet, a former World Junior Record holder in the 5000 meters (12:47:53), an outsider.
Way to go.
He belongs to the era 2016 at best, just when I'm seeing now his results by years at the world athletics. His best results are 2 bronzes WC + 1 silver Olym.

Don't forget he will be tired from 1500m races. Do you think he is a superman? Plus none really tested Jakob at pace of 12:40, all we hear are rumor of the legend of a 2 miles in Paris in a exceptional day where most runners have done exceptional performances.
