Cranny Racing Monaco

Kelati and Rogers both get in on rankings.

They're not in yet, still ranked 28 and 29 - for 27 spots. Still need someone to scratch.

I see Kelati as 26th in 10000, Rogers as 23 as of 7/18. What am I missing?

Should she really go if she is going to run a mediocre time? Looking at the 1500/mile - the 3 fastest are Houlihan (doper), Rowbury (doper) and Slaney (doper). After that you had Simpson and the hooker from Vegas. Then you have a slew of American runners who are all about 10 seconds off the WR. 10 seconds off the men's WR puts you about 3:36. The American men have run much faster than that. I just don't think she should go unless she can run around 3:56 . 4:00 just ain't cutting it on the world stage. Stay at home and work harder.

You're looking at the wrong ranking. Need to look at the Road to Budapest tool. Both Rogers and Kelati are outside the ranking (20 have standard + a whole bunch of cross country athletes). Criminal when you see people like Dom Scott etc. aren't going to go

You're right. I was also looking at the wrong list.

I don't see any of the current "in" women giving up their spot.

I'm not sure what you're blabbering about since no one is talking about the 1500 at Worlds, but I laughed out loud at "hooker from Vegas".

Eilish McCoghlan has been hurt so might withdraw. That puts Salpeter as next in if a second person withdraws. Karissa is likely the alternate for the USA as they can submit 4 athletes and she has the standard but Kelati doesn't. It's possible that there aren't two withdrawls so the US would still get 3 athletes in without Rogers. If Cranny or Monson withdraw, Karissa is still likely the 4th choice runner submitted but more likely to get in unless there are enough withdrawls to get Kelati in on rankings.

I had heard Salpeter was only going to do marathon, which would move them up 1 spot. I figured at least 1 of the xc girls would scratch.

Ironic if both Monson and Cranny scratched. Any idea if Rogers really wants to double?

We could have an unlikely team of:

5000- Cranny, Monson, Andrews alt: Henes

10,000- Rogers, Kelati, Schweizer alt: Kurgat

If Cranny, Monson and 1 other scratched that could move up all of Rogers, Kelati, Kurgat.

Sorry, Kurgat is too far off to be alt in 10 (now), would have to be Cranny or Monson.

So how does the ranking come into play? There are only 3 Ethiopians, plus Gidey and 3 Kenyans that will be on the 10K team in Budapest. But there are more than that on the list in the top 20.

I don't get why they race the mile in monaco instead of the 1500 these days.

Anyways, cheering for Cranny and Hiltz. It may be a tough one for Cranny as it's difficult to go from a 10k/5k double directly into a hot paced mile, but maybe she'll surprise us!

Glad to see Elise healthy again, racing in a DL and being open in interviews/podcast about wanting to race more on the circuit. A sub-4:20 would be solid here. I think she's going to suprise a lot of people in the World's 5k.

Yeah i think she will do well. The problem is the 5k is so stacked that she will place higher in the 10k than the 5k even if she has run a better race in the 5k.

McColgan is fit again and has said she is targeting Budapest.

Salpeter would be more likely to run the marathon which she could realistically win.

I don't think all the XC qualifiers will take their places. People like Nadia Battocletti and Marta Garcia might prefer the 5k - Garcia only has a 34 minute PB on the track. Then again, if contracts reward selection for multiple events then there's an incentive to turn up anyway even if you're lapped a couple of times

The other issue is if an athlete is selected for the 10k, they're guaranteed to run in a World final. There's no guarantee an athlete gets out of the heats in the 5k.

She just ran a 4:16 in basically a season opener after doubling in the 10k and 5k recently.
