Murphy ran a 45.4 relay split in 2014 or 2015 already, so hardly unreasonable to see him running 1:42.93 this year. For Muir to have that kind of talent as a woman, she'd have a pr around 51-52 instead of 55. Or she'd have 14:40s or better, instead of 15:40s.
That's not a very helpful comparison.
For a start 800m is a lot closer to 400 than 1500.
Secondly, a woman running 3:55 does not have to be able to run 51 or 52 for a 400m! Where did you get that figure from?
What's Semenya's 400 pb? Around 50.8? And she's probably capable of 1:53 for 800m. Doesn't mean she's going to be faster than Muir over 1500!
How do you know what sort of 400m speed Muir shows in training? She might have run a 53.5, which is probably a more realistic time for someone with her 1500 ability.
Cram's best ever 400 tt in 85 was 48.1, and he ran faster than Murphy. By your reasoning. Murphy, at 45 mid, should be running sub 1:40!
I remember reading a thread about Murphy running a 45 mid 400 split, which in itself means more like 46 low in an open 400, but I also seem to recall that their wasn't conclusive evidence or video documentation, and many posters remained unconvinced!?
Even if he did run a 45 mid split last season, his progression has been incredibly rapid. What was his 800 pb 2 seasons ago?
Laura Muir front ran a 4:00 in Oslo last year and everyone commended her for a great front running performance. Similar sentiments followed her 3:57 in London earlier this summer.
But now she has dared to run faster than Simpson or Rowbury, with a 3:55, and now everyone is calling her a doper.
I think the fact that she was out of the medals in Rio and got caught up following a ridiculous mid race surge by Dibaba, is evidence enough for me that she is likely not a doper. She crumpled at the end and finished down the field. Had she been able to follow that pace and medal, then perhaps there would be something of a case.
