Henrik will just have his baby brother beat this guy.
In all honesty though, Henrik should focus move on from the track more on coaching and maybe try to run a good marathon while he’s young. Nothing crazy, but maybe drop a 2:12-2:14 marathon after a solid block before he retires. He’s just been left behind on the track and he’s probably not gonna run under 3:35/13:10 again.
Very strong run by Kiplimo, but he and Kejelcha are not dropping Jakob and then what do you think is going to happen over the last 400? Jakob is winning this race, no sweat.
Definitely some sweat, that was one of the best 5k races ever run. The way they closed that puts them on par with any sub 12:40 race.
Jakob might’ve won that but I’m not 100% convinced. Kejelcha has crazy range and ran 3:47 indoors in ye olden days pre super spikes. Kiplimo is the half marathon world record holder and the smoothest long distance runner I’ve ever seen.
Of course Jakob is amazing and already a GOAT of the sport with an incredible 2-mile world record and Olympic gold. I have no idea which of the three of them would’ve won. I’m not actually sure who did win lol
Ok, of course, I was providing some hyperbole for fun, but Jakob is in 5000 wr shape, I am sure of it and so, I think he would have gone under 12:40 if needed. We will, of course, never know about today. More important race coming up....
Agreed. Almost seems like the least likely way to beat him, as opposed to a super fast race start to finish or a 51-52 last lap.
Not sure why anyone thinks that would a winning strategy. All Jakob would do is sit on and let them do the work and pacing, while he saves up for progressively running each lap faster for the final mile.
Yeah, I don’t think Jakob would let it come down to the last 400 because that makes it more of a crapshoot, anyone can find a bonkers final gear on one day of their life. Jeilan FTW.
Fact is Jakob’s nearly impossible to beat in a 5k without pacers and great weather…and even then he might be unbeatable. Today’s 5k makes things more interesting though!
