LRC 5 Takeaways From An Incredible 2023 Bislett Games: A 1500m and 5000m For the Ages

What a track meet. Jakob Ingebrigtsen ran 3:27.95 as 8 men went sub-3:30 including Yared Nuguse in an American record* of 3:29.02. In the men's 5000m, Yomif Kejelcha and Jacob Kiplimo both ran 12:41.73 with Kejelcha getting the win.

Wow, Wow, Wow : Kejelcha 12:41.73 EDGES Jacob Kiplimo 12:41.73

This was an all-time great 5000m race.

Yomif Kejelcha and Jacob Kiplimo obliterated the world best of 12:52.03 by Mohamed Katir and ran side by side to the line at the end it took a couple of minutes of looking at the photos finish to separate them with Kejelcha getting the win.

Joe Klecker got 4th in this one but this was about the amazing running up front.

The final 4 laps were 60.09, 60.07, 58.42 and 55.75 (3:54.33) what a run. 

Paul Chelimo was leading through 2k and got a season's best but clearly has a ways to go.

17-Year-Old Birke Haylom, the WU20 Champ, Gets 1st Diamond League Win

Birke Haylom is a new 1500 year-old start. Only 17-years old, she got her first Diamond League win by taking over the lead when the rabbit dropped out after 2 laps. Haylom kept pushing the 3rd lap and opened up a gap 10-15 meters at the bell.  Jess Hull, the only person with a faster 1500m seasonal best in the field than Haylom, gave chase the final lap along with Cory McGee of the US and Nikki Hilts of the US tried to close late, but Haylom had a little something left and got the win in 4:17.13 .

Men's 200 Season's best for Knighton as he stays undefeated in 2023

Noah Lyles still has the world leader, but Knighton improved his season's best from 19.89 to 19.77 as Andrew de Grasse continues to struggle (20.33).

World XC Champ Beatric Chebet Gets Win

Beatric Chebet, the world 5000 silver medallist and world XC champ, got the win in 8:25.01 as she powered away from the field on the final lap.

Alicia Monson of the US pushed the pace from 800 to go as their was a lead pack of 8 that included Weini Kelati as well. With 400 to go Lilian Rengerek took the lead and Monson got gapped but Chebet struck with 200 to go and it was all over.

Monson held on for 4th as Kelati got a PB in 5th of 8:32.50 (she ran 8:33 indoors last year).

Wayde Van Niekerk Gets First DL Win Since 2017

The world record holder Wayde Van Niekerk's comeback continued with his first DL win since 2017 (he won a B race last year in Zurich).

Van Niekerk is undefeated since September of last year.
