Geoffrey Kamworor split 13:01 from 15k to 20k at the World Half Champs - Valencia 2018

It probably was well measured. The race went very slow for these guys's standards. There is a reason why these en route splits can't count for time/record purposes. What happened was an extreme scenario where there was probably a crazy wind plus a downhill section on top of a very slow pace. There were 20+ men at the 10km mark within a second.

To the doubters just go see the video on youtube. Absolutely relentless, wrecking havoc everywhere and destroying a 58:40 guy on the way. If that doesn't look like sub 2:40 km for you then you probably don't run.

Was it tailwind big part of the way? This must be the fastest womens half marathon of all time? Almost 5 women just outside the world record, and endless PB's. Not something you would expect in such a strong wind

There were a few with extremely fast times for that 5k section

My guess is that the drugs were a bigger affect than the wind.

...and yet, he did not crack 60. The first 15k was a walk in the park for him.

Remember how fast he ran his first mile after falling in 2016, weaving through a crowd of hobby joggers.

Too bad he can't close like that in a track 10,,000. Is he the first person in history to be faster on pavement than on Mondo?

About 100 men have ducked under 13:01 in an 'on the track' 5000m race.

That is what Caleb Dressel just did at NCAA's in Swimming........... 3 times!!! Over the course of 3 days, Dressel essentially repeated Bob Beamon's 1968 jump, 3 times in 3 days in a row.

Yeah but did you see the race? In the closing section there was a very steep downhill gradient.

This wind assistance plus elevation drop makes a huge difference. Crazy times can become possible, like the 13:01 5k split.

Let's all remember that Mike Boit ran 3:27 for a mile downhill.
