I disagree. I think that Bekele won because he was stronger, faster and more determined, regardless of the pace making.

I feel like Kipsang has low, odd arm swing. Kinda shuffly. Lateral movement. Watch the last few minutes of the race.
Kipchoge is control. Looks so comfortable.

Kipsang was so DEVASTATED by his HORRIBLE performance in Berlin that RUPP would have CRUSHED him. Kipsang would have been DEVASTATED and finished 87TH AT BEST.

Very exceptional! That is why there is no disputing Kipsang is the actual King of the marathon and everyone else is still playing catch up until they can beat this record! He failed to break the world record by 16 seconds this year but this accounts for the shoddy job by pacemakers(didn't even make it to 20K) and the energy he had to spend the rest of the way as a result. I bet if the pace makers were good he would have run under the existing world record and would have beaten Bekele by going sub 29 mins the last 10K!
If you compare the last 12.195 Km of 2013 race(pacer did great) and this year's, there is a big difference.

I don't see this guy going anywhere any time soon. We need to stop thinking the supremacy war is now between Bekele and Kipchoge. Its Kipsang Vs Kipchoge Vs Bekele! And most fans will root for Kipsang, no doubt, due to his composure and ability to keep his smile even when defeated. I think we see an athlete who runs his own race and not focus on others. He gives it his very best and if the results are good or bad, he has to be satisfied he gave his very best. The many turns in London marathon course maybe a disadvantage to someone that tall otherwise we could see fireworks between the three in London2017. Berlin, since it is a better course, needs to marshall finances and put up a race for the ages between the trio next year.
I live in Berlin and was at the medal ceremony and I had the chance to see him and Bekele chat after the race in the zone where the ceremony took place and also to see them very closely interact with their fans and both seemed indeed super calm, humble and nice. (as did Aberu Kebede).
I also followed the elite group by bike and in the telephone conversation with Sean Hartnett the question came up why the pacers went out the race so early. I also have a small anecdote in regards to that: I was watching at KM 17 and one of the pacers by the name of Philip from the lead group dropped out there and I helped translate between him and the Staff and he said he had a hamstring injury...
Anyway, great race and comeback from Kipsang no doubt, but still I rooted for Bekele and loved how he came back and won this one. I feel a bit sorry for Mutai whom I always liked as a runner and who didn't have such a good day.
on my 6 mile easy run this morning, i tried to envision this form and felt very relaxed, running about 30 sec/mi faster at same HR that I typically do- channeling my inner Wilson!
Big ups to Kipsang. He did a great job pacing Bekele to within a whisker of the WR, something he was going for himself. He really put it all on the line in that race.
