Six hour time difference between Beijing and Zurich is significant.

Rowbury could take down the American Record as she's had nine days since the 1500 final to recover and get over jet lag. NOP's European base is in Switzerland, too, which should help.

Haha sub 8?! There's no way she's gonna average like 4:15 pace for 3k...that's 63 and change per lap, the world record for the mile is 4:12 by the way. I think she's capable of something towards like 8:10-8:15 at her best, but no way is she going sub 8.
8:20 last 3000 in Beijing (adjusting for flying start)
- a few seconds for not being finish of a 5000
- a few more seconds for better weather
- a few more seconds for pacers
- a few more seconds for being in a time trial and shooting for a record rather than a medal
= damn close to 8 or below.
Ayana had no chance to break the 5000 world record, so once she had gold in the bag, there was no reason to continue pushing the pace.
If you would check theTwitter accounts for Simpson and Coburn, you might realize that they have been in Zurich for quite some time, so jet lag will not be a factor.

No American records. Jet lag. Ethiopians will dissapoint as well due to jet lag.
Jet lag is a big factor here. Very big.

East to West time change isn't a problem.

That's 12 hours, and it flips your circadian rhythm upside down. When you travel across 6 time zones it's easy to fall asleep in your new time zone.

Circadas crawl out of the ground once every 17 years so upside down that would be about 17 times in one year. But that's still only once every couple weeks. There probably won't be any swarms at Zurich.
2/10 Wigins, 2 of 10.
8:11 for the win today - Dibaba running on hate for losing that 5000 closes in 57
As for the Americans, Simpson, Rowbury, Infeld but no AR; 8:31, 8:33, 8:34. But if Rowbury falters look for Salazar and Capriotti to break out the iron batons to break legs of athletes and teeth of coaches.
Nope. Not even close.

Why not hold it one week after? We've recently seen a run of disappointing times as athletes just cash in after championships. Back in the day, though, there were some very notable performances, such as Morceli's wr's
very interesting flash-quote from kohlmann, a top 800 gal after berlin race :
she said after her 1'58+ for 2nd that she was still jet-laged from champs !!!
we are talking ~ 10 days since her non-qualifying semi !!!
perhaps we shoud consider nearer 2 weeks the minimum time for an elite middle/distance runner to recover from significant jet-lag
