He was in the right spot at 700m with Nuguse on his shoulder. I know they closed hard in the 3k yesterday but my expectation was that Hocker and Nuguse would push away from the field with a few 28s
Ciattei will go. Unsure on Nuguse but don't they honor the finish at this race? So if Green or Houser get in on world ranking/season best then I think that's what will happen.
3:37.32 seems to be the time to hit to make it on world ranking right now. It probably will be faster than that when the list is updated
PS. YOu gotta feel for Ciattei. He beats both Hocker and Nuguse and still doesn't make a US team.
.....
Vincent & Yared BOTH make the 1500m team unless the top 2 hit the qualifying time & we're not aware BUT I don't think either of the top 2 have the WCS.
I love how the haters come out hard against Hocker for having 1 off race… after winning the 3k yesterday. He’s still the best 1500 guy right now and it’s obvious him and Goose weren’t fully recovered from the previous day. I love how people on the board are attempting to belittle Hocker by comparing him to Jacob. Yeah, those weak Olympic and world gold medalists both suck…
Obviously Hocker and Goose were still tired from the 3k yesterday and the other guys were fresh.
Exactly. They were ripe for the pickin’. I like Green but I doubt he’ll make a dent at WCs. I hope he can prove me wrong. As for Cole, there are too many you guys who are good, and coming in tired against them being freah is not going to work.

The board has been full of prissy jealous never-succesful wannabees for years. Par for the course.
However, the fact that they never actually tried to get standard before today indicates to me that they do not intend to go to WC. Unless of course they share a coach with Wolfe.
It means he's really good at 3000/5000 but unable to win at 1500?
Just like Jakob Ingebrigttsen. In case you have forgotten, Cole was only third at USAs last year in the 1500. He was 5th today. Just like Jakob, people assume that since he's the Olympic champion, he is great at the 1500 but his last 3 tactical 1500s haven't been great. 5th today, DQd at Worlds and 3rd at USA outdoors.

I think just in the sense that he’s the fittest 1500m runner who lost to guys that aren’t as fast as him in a time trial but raced better on the day. It’s an interesting comparison results wise but tactically played out very different
cracks me up when "only 5th" is written and he less than a half of a full second behind AFTER winning the 3000m the day before. EVERYONE here including the founders of this site act as if they are unbeatable at all times and faster then everyone competing at the elite level today. SMH...letsrun

Your post is exactly why we have to come out hard. In what possible way is Hocker the best 1500 guy right now? He has lost three consecutive 1500m championships. Outside one time trial in Salem NC, he has lost every 1500m race he has entered as well. Sorry, but he is not the best
Jakob's 1500m losses have come when he forces the pace and depletes his own kick.
Hocker is too complacent in the set-up for the kick, giving himself too much work to do.
Very different problems.
I’m surprised how many LRers scoff at Hocker’s Olympic OR 1500m win. He won probably the greatest Olympic race in history at that distance and it happened less than 2 years ago. It was the ultimate and he has bragging rights until 2028. The most recent race does not mean anything. People were raving about him running 3:45.9 while being congested, but today he sucks.
Kara Goucher - "Cole is a great tactician." Does she watch him run? He has been lucky several times and often his talent just overcomes poor tactics. I just can't handle her.
Yeah agree.
It's the next level of understanding that she doesn't quite seem to have. There is a difference between great tactics/tactical acumen and talent/fortune that bails you out more often than not. But let's not forget that this is the guy that got himself into such a jam in a world semi-final that he had to pull off a move that was the most blatant and easy DQ in recent memory - one so blatant he seemed to just instantly accept because even he in his heart of hearts knew.
Even his most famous victory - Paris '24, had a huge amount of fortune tied into it if we are really honest. If Kerr doesn't come up on Jakob precisely when he does and Jakob doesn't open the gate that had been closed literally seconds before, he probably has a bronze medal instead of a gold.
Yesterday if Nico Young doesn't have to cover 10-12 or so meters more in the final half of the race thanks to his stupid and unnecessary position in the opening half of the race (he was 14th at one point - why?) then Hocker getting shuffled back to 4th in a slow race with 600m to go should have killed him - but of course it didn't.
On the flip side he's seemingly gotten away with it so often that it made today so shocking. You're just waiting for those front 3-4 guys to cannibalize each other and give him yet another window to win, today it just didn't happen.
I think it's showing what a supreme talent he must be to overcome this bizarre tactic of leading, getting shuffled back and then finishing hard. God knows how good and dominant he would be if he ever figured that out.

Why is there always the need to make runners “the next ____”. That’s just clickbait and annoying.
He went 2:21 in his final k yesterday. He wasn’t fully rested. It’s funny you make that comparison about Jakob when at Pre a few years ago, he went 3:43 mile one day and followed up with a 7:23 3k time, which were both at the 3rd all time.
