Watching the starting line of the Women's race. Why are the American women at the front? None of them are going to break 2:20 or even 2:22.

There's like 15 spots on the line. I think they make the cut to be at the front.

Because it is an American marathon, so they are highlighting them. It's not as if it matters for the outcome of the race.

Especially frustrating if they continue to give wheelchair races the bulk of the coverage for the next hour in light of the fact John Anderson was almost making fun of the fact that both M & W race outcomes are already a given.

It’s so exciting to watch the wheelchairs coasting on the downhills.

Who are the people running on the course the women are passing?

I believe they are runners with disabilities, such as blindness. They start early to avoid the huge crowds for safety reasons.

Hassan is already getting dropped from the lead pack just after 5k (17:05). Of course it's too early to count her out, but worth noting as defending champ Sheila Chepkirui goes to the front.

I’d prefer Des and Kara as the running commentators.
