Agreed. Fisher is special and seems like a nice guy. Hopefully he has more good things to achieve in his career, but at this point I’d much rather have Rupp’s career.
Maybe Galen. Nobody else would come close. Fisher is a special talent.

Nah, I’d also put money on Bob Kennedy, Bernard Lagat, Frank Shorter, Pre to beat Fisher if we could transport their careers into the modern era.

Bernard Lagat,
We are talking Americans here. His career was more Kenyan.
The US has serious medal threats in Fisher and Nuguse now. Really exciting heading into the Olympics next year and LA 2028.
7:25 is crazy because even in the beginning of the season he didn't look close to as good as he was last year. I wanna see Fisher vs Nuguse in a 3k this indoor season.
Yeah, facing Yared again in a 3k would be fun.
However, Grant may head back over to Lievin, France like he did earlier this year . . . where Girma set his 7:23.81 indoor WR . . . only 0.18 off of what we saw today at Hayward . . . which makes that Lievin track and 3k race even more spectacular in retrospect.
Also believe it's a little more likely now that Grant will race Sound Running's The TEN next March since he doesn't have the 27:00 Q for Paris . . . but he likely will have a high enough WA ranking to qualify . . . so maybe not.
Today, Grant beat all the Ethiopians save Kejelcha whom he has beaten at least a couple times since 2021.
Over a variety of distance races these past three years, Grant has beaten all his primary 5k and 10k competitors except for JI, Jacob Kiplimo, Mo Katir, and Jacob Krop . . . and he may have beaten the latter two at some points . . . just don't recall.
Now armed with new knowledge regarding his mileage limits & adaptability to cross training, Grant is very much a medal contender next year in Paris for both the 5k and 10k . . . which, in the history of US distance running, I believe only Galen Rupp could lay claim to . . .

Lol you can't be serious about Kennedy, Shorter, or Pre.

Yes . . . thanks for remembering.
Another aspect of Grant's running is that he's excellent racing in heat and humidity . . . a huge advantage for him in mid-summer championship races . . . another reason silver or bronze medals are within reach for him next year.
Frank Shorter won one Olympic marathon gold medal and one silver (should be gold) and four Fukuoka marathons at a time when the race was considered an unofficial world championship. Grant may get there but he needs some hardware.
7:25 is just off the charts good for a guy who was injured this summer and who had a 7:28 pr before this. I am happy to see him run so well. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Yared Nuguse has the indoor American record in the 3k from this winter and with his improvement from 3:47.38 indoors to 3:43.97 outdoors, you'd have to say that he would be running low 7:20s here fresh, just as Jakob would be breaking 7:20 fresh. Yared Nuguse won several DLs this year, beat Kerr, and came within 1/4 second of Jakob yesterday, so he is definitely a greater gold medal threat than Grant, who will always be a gentlemanly third at best until he comes to be and believe he is the equal of the top guys.
