I think you might have your math wrong. without super shoes Fisher is a13:11 5000m man, with super shoes he is a 12:46 man. That makes Bernie a 12:28 man. Admittedly, Fisher didn't get all 25 seconds at once, he gets about 7-10 seconds per wearing. So I'm expecting a 12:39xx next time out.
As someone who has not trained with him, but has trained on the same track as him while he was training on that track, I can confirm he is actually pretty fast. Also that if lagat wore the shoes he probably would barely break 14 because he's like 45 years old.

If lagat didn’t run his pr at age 36 closing in a 53, sure. he probably could’ve ran 12:40 low in his prime. but just the shoes making that much difference? no chance
PEDs, for instance, allow an athlete to recover faster and thus train harder.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions about the benefits of PEDs generally and EPO or blood doping in particular. Hematocrit boosting, like the carbon-plated shoes, provides instant or rapid benefit; with the same effort or heart rate you run faster. Anabolic steroids and similar agents cause the user to benefit more from each training session; where a natural lifter training to failure on a given routine might be able to add one or two reps per exercise per training session; an enhanced lifter might be able to triple or quadruple that rate of progress. Similarly, a middle distance runner using anabolic steroids and interval training may be able to reduce the average time in which he runs his twice weekly 12 x 400 session 3-4 times more quickly than he would without the drugs.
Without the shoes Fisher would run high 12:50s. Still an incredible runner but these super times from super shoes must be put into perspective. However, although stats are nice it will always be about place in sports. So when he wins an Olympic/world medal is the “time” to get excited. Until then it real doesn’t matter if he runs 11:46.
This is mostly what I was trying to say. 12:59:00 is really the fastest he could run with the "old" shoe technology. Follow the science people. Lagat was a higher caliber athlete.

Give him his due. He ran great. He is using the technology available just like someone else will 50 years from now. Everyone out there today is using the super shoes. Stop bashing him it’s a joke…
What in your background gives you the balls to say these shoes are such an advantage. Have you worn them? Quoted statistics or studies? Lots of others eat this baloney up so stop
The reason we don't need to care about the shoes is that they are widely available. Technology and time don't matter. No one is taking away Billy Mills' gold medal, so he remains the greatest American 10,000 meter runner of all time. Grant Fisher is the best U.S. distance runner today, and third best in the world (WA ranking). That's pretty awesome for the Stanford grad.

I'm a college coach and on average my athletes run 15 second faster over the 5k with new shoe technology. Sample size is well over 100.
Some super-responders improve even more.
Difference yes 6 seconds in a sub 13 5k you wouldn't know.
You have no sample size because why would anyone not wear a super shoe during a 5k race? The only reason is if they aren't taking that race seriously and that alone is going to make the difference in times.
