From a strictly athletic perspective, you'd do well with George Mason. But, you are not going pro, or going to the Olympics, so running should be your extracurricular activity. What do you want to study, and what schools offer that program of study? Let's see that list of schools. Do you also want the other parts of college life like football games, a campus with historic buildings, and such?

At those schools will burn you out, they suck at development. You should look at Lafayette College in PA. I ran at a Patriot League school a few years ago and I have been really impressed with the development of athletes at Lafayette. Their new coach took them from last to 3rd in the league in 3 years, all with guys that were not as fast as you. You'd improve a lot there, and you'd get to be a key member of their team all 4 years.

Have you listed your test score or grades? My recommendation is to focus on your state schools unless there is a major reason not to.

Emory is not MIT… Emory is a great school and highly selective but William and Mary is also very good… Emory is better but you will certainly be on equal footing graduating from either school… that said athletically you would likely be better off at Emory (could be a top d3 athlete with the right progression) and you get a great education… I would chose between WM and Emory and chose the cheaper option unless you like actually living in one of the surrounding areas more.

OP, do NOT spend $75k per year to attend Lafayette. Behind those high "college ROI" scores often awarded within the Patriot League are the facts: 1. A huge portion of students are from very rich families and 2. Almost all of the high-achieving kids are bottom-tier Ivy rejects who worked extremely hard in HS and received college/SAT coaching from freshman year onward.
That being said, your 3200m time is probably right off the actual recruiting standard for the Patriot League schools. At a certain point (where we're talking about spending $300k to maximize your chance of contributing to a mediocre team at a mediocre school), I agree with the other people just go to UVA if you're from Virginia and accept that you'll probably need another solid year of training to walk on to the XC team.

He said from a strictly athletic standpoint. 4:30/9:30 will NEVER be able to walk onto the team at UVA. They had 2 freshmen run 4 flat in the mile, another at 4:03, 4:09 then Drew Hunter's brother at 4:11.
The Patriot League schools are literally the same price as other schools he's listed such as Emory and Richmond.
Emory is a disaster.

The difference between tier 1s and other places is night and day. Top firms literally will not speak to anyone who did not attend a tier 1. It is like you did not even earn a degree.
UVA is borderline tier 1. If you can pay cheap in state prices for UVA and are seriously considering alternatives with the highest ranked as Emory, your head is gone. Attend UVA.
Tier 2s honestly look worse than state flagships because they prove you could not get into Tier 1s. Most ambitious people who attend state schools could have attended a Tier 1 and wanted to save money/stay close to home.

Seems like Emory may be going through some issues for sure but it also sounds like the current coach is trying to run the program like most real programs are run and if you don’t like how the non whining athletes are describing the current program you will likely not like how any non-terrible d1 program is run. Sounds like a could be a cool program to join as it could possibly build into a legit d3 program.

Choose the school that will help you learn to not end a sentence with a preposition.
Seriously, choose the school with the best academic program for your current desires and abilities and seems to offer the non-academic experience that you desire for the next four years (e.g. social, weather. general campus atmosphere). If you choose a school primarily focusing on running and suffer an injury or lose desire to compete in your first year, you will want to be attending a school that still meets your needs and desires.

The coach is the guy who ruined Toledo. Toledo was a powerhouse on the women's side but this guy killed them. The Toledo men were LAST in the conference in his final year. 9th out of 9, nearly 100 points behind 8th place.
