Mantz took almost three minutes off his pb and just missed the podium, finishing four seconds back of second place. Among Americans, only Ryan Hall (2:04:58) has run a faster marathon than Mantz did in Boston on Monday.

In the process of joining his brother Wesley (2012) as a Boston champion, he also staked a claim to the unofficial title of ‘World’s best marathoner’ as he also convincingly won Chicago in the fall.
This is a flash recap. Come back for a full analysis and post-race interviews. In the meantime, talk about the race on our messageboard.

Sharon Lokedi absolutely the course record running 2:17:22 demolished Helen Obiri thanks to a 5:04 final mile that allowed her to put 19 seconds on Obiri in the final mile. Obiri held on for second in 2:17:41 with Yehualaw in third running 2:18:06, all well under the previous record

At 39K Sharon Lokedi and Obiri have broken away from Yehualaw as they are well under course record pace coming through 24 miles in 2:17:48 pace, well under 2:19:59 record.

Hell of a run by Conner Mantz. He was pushing so hard to break Kotut and Simbu those last two miles but just couldn't shake them.
He'll be a little bummed to have just missed two HUGE accomplishments as he was only 4 seconds off the podium and 8 seconds off of Ryan Hall's 2:04:58, the fastest marathon ever by an American.
But a huge 2:05:04 pb and 4th place is a tremendous run -- the best marathon of his life to date.

John Korir dropped a 4:41 20th mile to string out the pack and is looking strong. He's got a 10+ second lead atop of Heartbreak Hill and it's growing. The men's pack is really stringing out behind him but Conner Mantz is leading the chasers right now.
