It is Geb?
probably Kenny B.
it's hard to compute b/c their sponsorship deals tend to not be disclosed, but here's the prize money list for track (doesn't include xc money), obviously topped by the winners of the golden league grand prize.
http://www.american-trackandfield.com/news/track04prizemoney.html
if you think he makes more than a sprinter you're on cheap, dirty rock
i know im gonna get ripped apart for this but who is Christian Olsson?
Swedish TJer, who is a total rock star in Europe. Since, Edwards retired, even a little before, he has been nearly unbeatable.
i dunno about that; he surely makes more prize money than sprinters do and he can command a rather substantial appearance fee at any race he appears. he's a huge draw in europe. there really isn't a 'star' sprinter right now who can command a big fee. guys like gatlin and powell aren't quite there yet (but if gatlin adds the WR or powell adds the world title, they probably will). from what i've heard, the sponsorship deals for sprinters aren't quite as lucrative as they used to be. i imagine it's possible a distance runner at the very top of the sport probably could match or exceed the earnings of the top sprinters, especially right now. here's the prize money list (remember, track only no road/xc); note the strength of the distance runners here:

this is prize money
i thought it was "how much do the earn"
if that is the case, then i don't believe that he makes the most money of anyone in the world. in fact, i don't believe he's even close.

Not a single track/road/XC guy on the list. Ken Young says Geb is the lifetime prize money leader at $2,222,043. I have no idea if that's road only, road & XC only, or all sports combined. But it definitely does not include appearance fees or endorsments.
SI's top ten women:
1. MARIA SHARAPOVA $23,006,263
2. SERENA WILLIAMS $22,251,798
3. VENUS WILLIAMS $8,700,000

Long-distance queen earns at least $500,000 from some marathons just for showing up
10. ANASTASIA MYSKINA $2,365,847
There's a very real possiblity that the top-earning trackster in the world is Radcliffe, beating out all the men.
its kinda cool that the most paid runner is a woman....nice
Geb recieved 500,000 GBP for running the london marathon for his first marathon. That was an appearance fee.
EL G's appearance fee is $75,000.
The SI list is a bit off. Schumacher (Sp?) according to forbes is the highest paid athlete in the world. But as it says, this is known.

el g's and bekele's appearance fees are reputed to be the highest among track athletes (set aside, of course, marathon, which is considered road). i don't think it's much of a stretch to say he's near the top - or, at the very least, close to it.
Its a bit ridiculous that their employment contracts aren't public, like they are in every other sport, so we know who is making what from Nike, etc.
i dunno, i wouldn't want my employment contract made public. and it's really only in american sports that salaries are generally known, largely because of the salary caps. european soccer player's salaries, for example, aren't necessarily made public (of course, the news media usually finds someone willing to spill the beans). the contracts for many track athletes are whispered about among agents and in the track community but there really isn't a media that is concerned with the information so it generally remains unknown to the public at large.
Wow, that may have been the most unreadable post ever.

yeah i noticed that too. he's right though. most non-track athletes only recognize 100m runners. The exception being Michael Johnson maybe.
Jason Giambi makes 16 million a year and the guy barely hits his weight. On an equivalency, an NCAA 1500m qualifier is probably equal in performance as Giambi is now. So freakin sad that track athletes do not get equivalent money to athletes in other sports!
BUMP
