Amazing if true.....
Amazing if true.....
exactly, this has been driving me crazy. Her achievements after BU were several sketchy jobs plus bartender/waitress, and other than working on Bernie Sanders campaign, she was not politically active or a socialist. Her brother actually entered her in the casting call...
She did work her butt off beating the streets to win the local election, but strategy was organized by her puppeteers. They definitely caught the incumbent white guy napping. The key is that this district is 90% democrat, and about 75% people of color, so just win the primary and you are in.
On top of this she lied about her upbringing - she claimed to be Alex from the block, but she was really Alexandra from Westchester. Her parents actually lived the capitalist American dream by working hard and scrapping the money together to get their kids into a good high school - Yorktown High and then on to a reputable University - BU. I don't know why the handlers have hidden this, as it is a great story in itself. Still they pretended that she grew up in the Bronx - and when story came out about her high school, pretended that she commuted every day 40 miles from Bronx to Yorktown.
All crazy, but end result is you have a pretty Latino girl, who is actually hard working and quick on her feet becoming face of the democratic party, without any real political or life experience. That's why we get all the gaffes, because she really does not know what she is talking about.
This cannot come to a good end.
You are extremely naive. Parties recruit people to run all the time. Heck. Dan Crenshaw is one instance on the right.
No big deal.
The socialists leaders pushing against the capitalists/bourgeois establishment often have bourgeois educations. Engels had a bourgeois education and upbringing. Marx had a bourgeois education and upbringing. Fidel had a bourgeois education and upbringing. Ernesto Guevara had a bourgeois education and upbringing. Those on the left love A.O.C. Telling us she has been exposed to a bourgeois lifestyle and telling us A.O.C. had a bourgeois education makes us love her more. We know she has the necessary education to combat those on the right.
I have no idea why republicants are obsessed with AOC. Makes no sense.
If anyone this new to "the system" has ever stirred up the other side to this extent, I'd like to know who that was.
The Republican Party must be terrified of AOC, I see no other explanation.
She's the Sarah Palin of the left

I'd say the majority of the Democratic Party is terrified of AOC. If she were to succeed in her policies becoming the mainstream platform of the Democratic Party, the Democrats will be virtually gift-wrapping for Trump a second term.
Just the style and the music makes it unwatchable for me.
I love the point the guy made about the Standing Rock Reservation / Keystone Pipeline protests. 0% chance AOC was there like she claims because she'd have had 500+ photos of it on her social media sites. She's "Bryan Williams-ing" a story right there.

AOC makes Palin look like a MENSA valedictorian. Box of pebbles.
Republicans said the same thing about Obama. How he had no jobs or anything and just showed up out of nowhere and it was all a big conspiracy. They attack everyone’s experience and then vote for a man with literally zero achievements.
it wasn't the party who picked her, it was the guy who is now her congress chief of staff - he casting called candidates like her in several similar districts, and ended up winning the one race with AOC. my issue isn't really with this group, or a party hand picking a candidate - it's with the lying upfront about her background. Even though she already had a great story - parents sacrificed so she could make it in America - she willingly lied to make a better story - Alex from the block. If you lie right out of the gate, why am I going to trust you?
Obama was a little different. After his BA he went to Harvard Law - required strong record of achievement (even with weed) at Occidental and then 3 years of law school at H. He then had jobs with political action and social groups on the south side of Chicago. These jobs may often be poked fun at, but there is a track record that he went in to work and did the job and took home a small paycheck. In AOC's case she took her bachelors from BU and turned it into waitressing and bartending. Other than this and the Bernie Sanders campaign work, the other jobs she cites are not verifiable.
It is unbelievable how obsessed with a first term congresswoman people are. There's 435 people in the house, you can probably name.... 10? Get a life folks.
Yes, political organizations cast a net out for candidates. They are constantly looking for candidates and they don't support just anyone. Usually, though, they are taking those with money. Here an organization was actually looking for people who would make good candidates but who did not have a lot of money of their own. That is a lot more like the way democracy should work. The fact is that most people don't want to run for office because it takes a huge amount of time and money and without independent wealth you can't do it. Most lower offices don't hardly pay anything, yet they are expensive to run for. The press even rates candidates at the beginning by their fund-raising capacity, usually tied to their money.
Why are you so afraid of AOC? Do you think she would laugh at your "game"?
Oh yea, this is from Russkie Trollskies. Go get something to drink because you live in a crap, cheating country.
I'm glad this thread stirred up some interesting conversation
as noted I am a democrat, and I have really no issue with many of the socialist ideas currently under discussion - Europe works pretty well.
I also am thrilled that AOC has a bourgeois BA from Boston U.
My point is that many leaders of socialist thinking like Bernie have spent years honing their thinking and earning their stripes, whereas AOC shows up on the scene reading the cliff notes version of socialist thought - and then spouts all her misunderstandings every day on twitter and TV.
She's a puppet, dishonest, and does not have thorough grounding and knowledge to do her job.

What's amazing is that people won't trust ANYTHING from traditional media sources, but will happily eat up youtube conspiracy videoa made by semi-literate, anonymous Qanon freaks.
"Is AOC is a secret agent of the Illuminati? BIG IF TRUE!"
Obama's background is far more impressive in fact. Single mother raised him. He got into Occidental, but then transferred to Columbia University, did very well. He then worked for five years as a community organizer in Chicago. If you don't like the idea of community organizing, you have got to like the idea of helping poor and violent communities to become less poor and less violent, right? More people should do that. Then he got into Harvard Law, where he was named editor of the Harvard Law Review, a title every law student wants. His professor called him the best student he'd ever had. He parlayed that into a professorship at the University of Chicago law school, held office in the Illinois state senate for three terms from 1997 to 2004. He published two books that were best sellers. He ran for Senate in Illinois and won. His invited speech at the DNC was so good he was considered the next star of the Democratic Party. He beat a candidate with enormous fund-raising backing and name recognition in HRC for the nomination and obviously he won the presidency twice and rescued the economy, got health care to tens of millions, and has many other achievements.
However, it has got to be said that at her age, Obama had not done very much. She has become among the youngest members of Congress and defeated a very wealthy incumbent, and despite her junior status has already become the best known member of Congress behind Nancy Pelosi. She has already changed the entire debate.
By the age Obama ran for president, her accomplishments will be right up there.
