Screw Competitor. I hope Tracy loses and Competitor goes under.
Good day.

You have obviously never run a business. You're one of the leeches that benefits frpm people who actually do.

Hope it’s thrown out and both parties get stuck with hefty legal bills.

they sue for that too you know.
Can someone give a quick summary on why the hate for both sides?
Sundlun, through Competitor Group, sold out and watered down the sport to suck entry fees up. Then cancelled prize money for elites at their races, though later reinstated after backlash toward both them and title sponsors. All in all, rapacious people and organization interested in making a buck off the sport over all else and don't make much of a contribution to the communities where their races are held, despite the income they derive from steep entry fees. Just a basic summary view of the negative angle. I'm sure they've accomplished good things through their business, they just came at a real cost.
The same Chinese company that owns Ironman now owns Competitor. This assures that it will go from an awful company to one that may be among the worst in the history in the entire universe. Everyone associated with it deserves to wind up on the street with nothing, living in cardboard boxes and huddling together for warmth screaming WHY? WHY? WHY? at a God who would hate them if he were there at all.
This happens often when a small business becomes successful, and grows to a large scale. In order to become larger and more successful, people get fired, and more experienced business people take their positions. Sundlin was fired, and replaced once the company started becoming enormous. Businesses exist mostly to make money. Sometimes, this means firing friends and family, and replacing small business owners and workers with an experienced CEO or similar executive. The goal is to make money for the business, not to treat peole nicely and fairly. Sounds like Sundlin didn't like the way he was fired, and how he was treated afterwards. Your more serious runners also don't often like the way this company treats them. Its a business, run by businessmen, who's #1 goal is to become rich, not necessarily to treat people nicely. This is where the hatred comes from. It happens often when small businesses go global.
Sundlun didn't treat many HS coaches nicely and fairly when he ran the New York city TAC races (MAC) in the late 80s and early 90s.

Competitor cancelled prize money again in 2017 for most of the Rock n Roll races. I think Philly is the only one left with an elite level prize purse.

Tracy did more for the sport than you could ever dream of.
He becamevone of the most respected people on the sport.
Ran a relay race across Long Island in the late 1980s. Our team won the race and about 1/2 our team was made up of college athletes (I was out of college and was expecting a split of the $2500 prize). Tracy said if we signed over the prize money to MAC we could get travel vouchers for the amount we won. Don’t know if the check was ever given to MAC. All I know is I never received any compensation for our team win. Was a grad student at the time and $300+ was over a month’s worth of groceries. Had another issue with him a few years later at a MAC vs New England TAC indoor meet where he did not give me permission to run in the meet until a short while before the race when only 6 runners ran. Don’t have a high regard for the way he acted 30 years ago. Have the same regard for the company. They deserve each other.
