In Boise for a few days.
Looking for somewhere soft surface and mostly flat to run a few miles, suggestions please.

I've run on a trail at the base of the foothills. Access to it just east of Camel back park. Didn't need any protection.

Get over yourself. You are not funny or clever. Letsrun (and now strava heat map) is the best place to look for places to run in a new city. Questions like this are the bread and butter of what Letsrun should be.
When I was in Boise I ran at this park called Harrison Hollow I think. It was off Bogus Basin Road in the northern foothills of the city. I liked it but my campion thought it was too hilly. The other run we did that we both loved was Granite Basin road out of Garden Valley. It’s a dirt road that runs into the Boise National Forrest.
I was in Boise on business for a week about 5 years ago and there was a nice paved trail that was accessible from anywhere in the city.

Here you go. Starting at Camels Back or Military Reserve gives access to plenty of trails. Lower Hulls Gultch is a favorite.

After a couple of days of running in Boise, I'd say it's one of the best places I've visited purely for running.

Did you run up Hulls or the Greenbelt?

Both actually.
Green belt is unspectacular, but certainly has it uses. The trails in the foothills are fantastic imo.
Ciro,
There are several memorable foothill runs. One we call Lone Pine is about 14 miles round trip from the downtown. The high point is a tall pine tree at about 4,500 feet, so a good 1,500 foot climb. Another one Waterfall follows Hulls Gultch to a waterfall at around 4,000 feet, probably 13 miles round trip.
In regards to the Greenbelt, very nice in the summer when temperatures are in the 90s. Plenty of shade and the river at peak levels. Also a good place for flat hard tempo runs. The foothills can get icy and chunky for running at times in winter, so the Greenbelt is a good alternative.

Appreciate it, have only seen a little of it so far but greatly impressed.
Ciro,
Trails over by the Old Penitentiary are cool if you are still in town. That is just east of the downtown with access off Warm Springs Blvd.

Funny you mention that, we visited the Old Penitentiary Museum today. Did not run any of the trails right there.
Appreciate all of your advice, I will be back ?
Ciro,
At Halloween they have a haunted prison. Have dancers that do a Thriller routine. Pretty cool. Glad you enjoyed our town.
