Watch Jim at the Houston half this year and see how he does. Why don’t you go race a trail 50 mile like Lake Sonoma and see how you do

Literally, a moran.
I can't agree about Gwen. Honestly I didn't find it disappointing. It was interesting but I was never convinced to expect anything. It could have been the surprise of '18 if it worked out.
I hate to say it but Bekele definitely wins. I think in a lot of our minds we've now finally given up on this guy. He enters every race with a storm of potential. The past few years I've watched everyone of his marathons at all the weird live hours. After this year I'm throwing in the towel. I love the crap out of him, but let's call 2018 what it is: disappointment in Bekele solidified.

I was impressed by Gwen. Bekele has not raised high hopes for a couple years. The most disappointing was Clayton Murphy, who raised the greatest hopes the year before.

OOooo. Here's a post on LRC. Ha ha. I'm gonna say something that will roast Galen Rupp!
That'll shake everybody up!
Hmm. How about, " Galen Rupp deserves this award. It is the last award he will ever get. He is literally toast"
Ha ha. God, I'm so clever!
I'm not that much into following professional sport as I am into running myself, but I expected great things from Kenenisa Bekele at Amsterdam Marathon. He's the freaking GOAT, I thought that maybe there was a chance of beating Kipchoge's fresh WR.
When he DNF'ed, it was a real disappointment for me. I do hope it did him good and we'll see great performances from him next year!
The second one was Tyler C Andrews attempt at 50K WR. It was extremely anticlimactic. He'd get the second place just because I didn't really have other disappointments this year. My own races went pretty well.

Ferrell ran 3:56 in the 2003 Boston Matathon. Bet you DNF or cant break 4 and are not funny.
David Rudisha
He's like a prisoner of his own success. Once you've gone 1:40 and blown the doors off the world it feels like nothing else will ever quite be good enough.
Gwen
Bekele
Me
How many times this year did I say “this is Bekele’s day!” and sigh the next day..?
I considered Hasay one of the breakout athletes and thought she’d crush this year. I was disappointed to not really hear her name all year. Hoping she has a great 2019.

Yes! Berian or Bekele FTW.
Gwen, Bekele, Bernard Lagat in the marathon, and all the American men marathoners who continue to be stuck at 2:12+.
Callum Hawkins DNF in the Commonwealth Games marathon must be a contender. An odds on favourite who got his strategy totally wrong and made a fool of himself

This is correct; if you only count runners who raced multiple times this year, and not the ones that were MIA.
Not sure about the #1 most disappointing actual performance though.
Also the person who said Clayton Murphy must not be paying attention and/or is an idiot.

Banana Bread, as a New Years resolution, could you please consider shutting the fvck up?

I was thinking of Callum Hawkins myself, but it feels wrong somehow to be "disappointed" by a guy who clearly gave it his all, who succumbed to heatstroke, who lay in the gutter for ten minutes in agony before any aid arrived and had to be taken to hospital. I don't think he "made a fool of himself," at all. he clearly gave everything he had and I wish him good luck for the future. he ran 47:01 for 10 miles in September so he is clearly back to something like his previous form.
so I am instead going to nominate the British trio in the European 10,000m championships. after the scintillating and much lauded "Night of 10,000m pb's" at Parliament Hill in May I really did expect some fireworks in Berlin but the only rockets I saw lit up the night sky over the Brandenburg Gate. nothing of any interest happened on the track and the three British boys were simply going through the motions. Dave Bedford ran 27:30.8 as long ago as 1973 but in the intervening forty five years only five British men have beaten that time. the fastest British 10,000m this year was 27:51.9 and only three men broke 28:00, all in the same race. which is quite pitiful, really.
cheers.
Seb Coe choking twice in the 800m Olympic Finals on YouTube again while being the WR holder.
Galen Rupp's DNF IN HIS BOSTON MARATHON DEBUT was obviously the most disappointing occurrence in professional running this year.
Although not surprising for "MR DNF" himself.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
