After his recent 10k European Record he wants a sub 59:30 Half and the European record. Do you think that's possible for him? This kid is the real deal.

He already ran a 60:09 in his debut. 59:30 seems like a realistic goal. In fact, I wonder if Wanders can arrive at sub-59 in due time.
It was his second. He debuted in Milano 2017 with a 61:43.
Broke Mo Farah's 10 km road record and his half marathon pr is 59:32.

its not its 59;23
What is intriguing is that Julian had a relatively poor track season. What did he run ? Around 13.30/28.00, and he had been projected for 13.20/27.40 or better.
Is Julian.a pure road runner, by virtue of his style or other factors, or is it a psych. problem, arriving in the Euro track season, having left most of his energies in Iten, on that dirt track near the Lorna Kip. center ?
In any case, great to see the franco. speaking Swiss back in form.

Sand Dunes is correct. It's 59:32. The 59:23 was on a point to point, downhill course.

Prior to his Durban 10k European Record ( for which he barely tapered, only a week after 180-190-km weeks) he did some incredible workouts, almost as fast as Kipchoge/Kamworor's group.
12x1km, 2' very easy jogging, altitude 2200m, Eldoret, Kenya
2.49/2.48/2.44/2.46/2.47/2.44
2.44/2.46/2.46/2.41/2.42/2.31 (avg 2'44"/km)
40km long run in 2h19min (3'28"/km)
30km long run in 1h39min (3'18"/km)
20km run (5km easy, 5k tempo 13'31"!, 10k moderate)
20km run (5km easy, 10k tempo 28'11"!, 5km easy)
His coach Marco Jaeger said Julien is getting better all the time, although his summer races didn't go according to plan he wants to put them to bed this fall by breaking the hour barrier for the half marathon.
How fast? He believes 59:30 is within his capability. However if there won't be a 59:30 group, he'll have to go with the leaders on 58 high pace in Valencia. He also said he won't rush to the marathon to soon, as Julien is not done with the shorter distances yet. He might debut in the marathon in 3-5 years time only.
Based on this interview of his coach, I assume he's running RAK Half in the UAE next February:
https://www.facebook.com/ATHLEROMAND/videos/2092085154189482/
Could be a very fast one. CR is 58:42 (Bedan Karoki this year)
I assumed Valencia as i read it on this thread and seemed fairly logical but now i watched the full interview and i assume he is running RAK too. If weather is good Julien might get close to 59 low then.
Gotta love how his coach acts like track's still a priority for them. Sounds like the kid's already doing marathon training. I mean who besides Sage Canaday goes straight back from holidays to a 125 miles week?
I believe they are trying to lower his shorter distances times. This will help him later in his career when he will only focus on the half marathon/marathon.
I actually think this guy can get to some phenomenal results. If he stays injury free with his talent and hard work he can get in 2019 to
59:3x - HM
27:0x - 10k
13:0x - 5k
I even think he could debut in the marathon whenever he wants and get a 2:06-07 already.

Surely the last one is a typo?
No, it's not. This workout is posted on the social media of the Run'ix, you can check. Julien pushed the last km at the maximum, everyone in the comment section said the same thing and they answered it was legit.
