I ran the mile in HS. I ran the mile in college.
I'm pushing 40 now and I want to get back into training and racing. I do not want to race marathons, or half marathons; like Tegenkamp, I don't run no 10k.
I need a goal in order to motivate me to exercise consistently--running a (relatively) fast mile again would be something fun to shoot for.
I want to train for, and race, the mile.
Apart from the 5th ave mile in NYC, I am not aware of nice events for adults to run the mile. I know I could find random all-comer's college track meets, but I don't want to be the random fat old man running the 1500m in 4:20.
I want to race against my peers.
Does this scene exist anywhere in the country--where people actually train for competitive road or track miles?
I would have a blast trying to break 4:30 again with other old farts.
I am in the SF bay area.
