Hardest Training week in HS?

What was the most intense week of training you ever did in HS?

Looking back at my training log I would say my senior year in the summer before cross (In Texas) the varsity guys would do a couple weeks like this during peak base mileage phase..

Monday-

AM: 4 Mile W/U 4x400 Hill sprints on a road with very steep incline 4 Mile C/D- (9 Miles)

PM: 4 Miles

(13 Miles)

Tuesday-

AM: 8 Miles (AVG. 6:54 P/M)

PM: 4 Miles

(12 Miles)

Wednesday-

AM: 2 Mile W/U 6 Mile Tempo (AVG. 5:47 P/M) 6x300m (Avg. 48 Sec) 2 Mile C/D (11 Miles)

PM: 4 Miles

(15 Miles)

Thursday-

AM: 8 Mile Hill run (Very long and steep hills) (AVG. 7:05 P/M)

PM: Rest

(8 Miles)

Friday-

AM: 8 Miles Easy (AVG. 7:19 P/M) 4-6x 100m Strides

PM: 4 Miles

(12 Miles)

Saturday: 16 Mile Long Run (AVG. 6:17 P/M)

Sunday- Rest

Total- 76 MPW

I Ran 15:58 in Cross that season

That's a pretty hefty combo of both mileage and intensity. Lovejoy? The Woodlands? Luling?

I ran 80Mpw my senior year in hs but never ran over 5 mile tempo or 14 mile long run thats a big workload you do have a faster pr than me though I only managed 16:15

I never ran any intense weeks in HS, only smart weeks.

mo: 6 miles 6:30 pace

tu: 20 by 400 at 68-69 sec rest 1 min

we: 5 miles 6: 40 pace

th: 6 miles 6:30 pace

fr: 15 by 800 at 2:28- 2:30 min rest 45 sec- 1 min

sa: 10 miles 6:30 pace

su: Day off

Total - 40 mpv

I ran 14: 32 at track 5 k on this

I forgot to mention that we were weight lifting after our AM runs Tuesdays and Thursdays as well

I wouldn't consider that smart training at all. Tempo runs are essential for the long term of a career for developmental purposes. Thats why you never hear of any kids that did Paavo in HS doing well in college or pros now because there coaches didn't develop his athletes aerobic ability. I like The training plan of OP'S Coach, but it is vigorous for a HS team to say the least.

You probably had a lot more natural talent than most athletes running a 5k time that fast off of training like that in HS..

In fact not that talented. 54 sec best all out 400. But the program worked for me. And I kept on improving to a life time best 13. 39 , without tempos.

LOL Southlake does paavo I doubt they’re doing volume like that also they would probably be doing intervals in base phase but who knows

Calling bluff on this one, you didnt even include warmup or cool down for any of your workouts. 14;32 is dope. If you did run that then thats a dang lotta talent. Your workouts were intense tho.

Who cares? The point is to race well. If you can win and run fast on 20M per week, then do that.
